What are some people talking about? Jonas being a gentleman and giving the stage to Joao?
Remember stage 19 of the Tour? Jonas sucked wheels and was 1 second away from pipping Arensman for the win.
This is the Angliru and he wanted to win. He was beaten by a stronger man. Fair and square.
But it's also weird to say Jonas was "wheelsucking." There's no draft on the Angryru. He was digging deep just to hang on.

Is Angliru ever really exciting? It's mostly hard, but has the racing ever been very enjoyable to watch? I don't think I've ever been on the edge of my seat during Angliru.
I think it’s still interesting but should be used sparingly. It is a bit strange watching riders on the upper, brutal section because it doesn’t look like racing, as there are no attacks and no strategy—just survival.

Vingegaard looked well within himself to me, and I don't think Alemda is capable of dropping him. I never saw a hint that he could be dropped. If that UAE jersey were on different shoulders, I think that would have been different, but we're talking about Almeda, not Pogacar.
I agree with you , we will never know if Almeida was capable today of getting away from Vigegaard mostly because Almeida did @20+% more work throughout the day, but especially up the final climb, did 100% of the pull. Stage 14 has to leg breakers and we shall see if all of Almeida gambling pays off.. He wrecked bottom 20 today. With some pleasant surprises like survival of Pidcock. It certainly looked like top 2_were turning over granny gear at the end and if Jonas could have jumped for the win he would have imo. The supernatural recovery both guys had to finish as fast as they did was breathtaking for me!! And seeing some of the top 10 finishers who didn't get into camera view was also awesome. There were obviously multiple riders really really digging deep to keep lost time to a minimum. Plenty of spots that if you quit pedaling you would just tip over and fall down.. Very surprised by time splits of top ten.. The peloton talent level is super, super high..
Bummed not to see Olney, Heally, Lipowitz, Remco, Roglic, few others.. Would have liked to see were they match up. Tomorrow is going to ruin lots of people.

The opposite is true, going uphill and so slow no draft advantage from being behind, maybe tiny disadvantage from not seeing your line and not getting clean cooling wind, the little that was available! Both guys raced perfect final climbing kilometers. Almeida got result, time bonus, mental boost for his effort and beating best in the race, And Vingegaard gained, didn't lose anything, stayed with best punishment Almeida could dish out. Both riders getting opportunity for mutual respect.. Showed post finish when they probably realized what they did to everyone else.. Path of destruction for mortals
