Ayuso was not allowed into the break. He rode the first climb 23kms by himself. The peleton could not catch him.
Maybe that is right. I was basing my comment on the stage report. e.g the below quote from the linked report:
came back from an 11-minute time loss to win solo from the breakaway in Cerler.

Looking at all those low quality MTFs, we will have to wait until stage 13 (fearsome Angliru) to see interesting GC action :confused:

Had it not been the day before, I think that stage could have been raced. And I also think Pike will have a smash.
If DS's had brains they'd try the fuga bidone the day before, but they don't, so they won't.

Tiberi meanwhile finished, 15 minutes behind. Same as Gaudu and Vine.
Crazy how Vine could lose 15 minutes. He must have been walking on the last kilometers. (Two out of three commentators here expected him to win the stage with 20k to go.)
