Break of the day:
SARAMOTINS Aleksejs (045), KOHLER Martin (032), DOI Yukihiro (172) y PALOMARES VILLAPLANA Adrian (025).

I.e. crap.

Quality break that is.

From Charles Pelkey (http://www.liveupdateguy.com/):

Adrian Palomares Villapanda (Andalucia Caja Granada), 162nd, at 51:25
Martin Kohler (BMC), 163rd, at 52:25
Aleksis Saramotins (Cofidis), 191st, at 1:12:55
Yukihiro Doi (Skil-Shimano), 192nd, at 1:13:07

The peloton won't care. To random for a team to waste energy on the chase. Yesterday was a hard day and with the final decent they still might not catch them. Sprinter teams have better stages than risking today. Lead might get out to over ten minutes

With a selective climb in the end many sprinters might fancy their chances. Sagan, Bennati and Freire like these type of stages. It will be hard to beat Kittel and Farrar in a normal sprint stage.

Freire is not feeling well. Benatti would want to get into a break and win from there. Today will just be a nice easy ride for the peleton with. Such hard days ahead they will take there chance for an day today

Looking at the quality of the other riders in the break, I dont see how kohler can lose this if the break stays away. Im not even saying kohler is a good cyclist either but he is pretty strong.

Tomorrow will be a day where the sprinters will want to play. We will know soon enough who if anyone will want to chess these guys down

Wasn't Kohler the guy that broke away solo for almost 200k in the strade bianchi stage of the Giro? If he's that guy, he looked pretty strong there.

I think the break may stay away because from the obvious choices like Sagan, Gavazzi, Freire, Paolini, Bennati.... all of them have GC contenders to take care so they may not want to spend energy today.

Other than those guys, Van Avermaet could have been a nice choice but with Kohler in the break they'll just sit back and enjoy the show.

Perhaps Astana might try something for Gasparotto but it seems like a very long shot.

Boonen wanted to try on this one but I guess they are happy enough to keep the red in Chavanel and nothing else.

Thanks for the analysis, I hope the break stays but there is always GVA if it gets caught. Yup Kohler was super strong on the strade bianche stage and only got caught in the last KMs. Maybe his rival today might be saramontis.

I wonder if Katusha will put the VK hurt train at the front for that climb, to try and drop Chavanel to get Dan Browne into the red, and maybe even get Paolini to try for the stage win.

Cycloboxing sounds like even more fun. Just gotta make sure Julian Dean reads the rules, cause you know... Headbutting's illegal and will get him DQ'd even in cycloboxing

Go look for Kohler's results on CQ.

Then compare them with those of Saramotins, who is an underrated rider and wins some races every year. Palomares has more of a palmarès, too.

But I don't believe they will stay away.
