I'll refresh your memory: Fränk crashed (and left the race) last year on stage 3 of the Tour. This year crashes were on stage 9. And last year there was one more week between end of Tour and start of Vuelta.

Hey, I've long since admitted Nibali is very consistent and an excellent GT racer, probably one of the worlds best and most consistent.

But I'm not going to admit to things he's not. For one, he's not an attacker in mountain finishes. I mean cmon, how obvious does this one get? He's a follower until he can't and choses own pace. Not an attacker, never was one.

Nibali will most def. be close today. IMO he's actually the most reliable card to play for a good finish today.

Contador definately, Joaquim Rodriguez, Igor Anton, Samuel Sanchez, the Schlecks sometimes..those are attackers
forgot guys like Jose Rujano, the Colombians, Chris Horner (when he's good)...

If attacks in the last k count, I can give you examples of a few Nibali did in last years Vuelta and in this years Giro.

Nibali isn't the world's most explosive rider and hence can't really attack the way guys like Contador can. He's a calculating rider, but that's why I like him. Despite being less naturally gifted than others, he uses those abilities to the absolute max and has gotten some very nice victories out of that. He's pretty much the exact opposite of Andy Schleck, one of the most talented riders of recent history whose complete lack of race tactics and motivation has prevented him from building a palmares as good as it could be.

Nibali attacked in the Giro 11? I've seen him trying at the Etna once. Other than that I've only seen him ride own pace and finishing in front groups.
He's a good tempo climber but he nearly never attacks. (that would be stupid too, and Nibali is smart)

Funny how you watch the same race and see something completely different. Nibali the attacker uphill. I giggle. Maybe you are confusing his downhill attacks for mountain attacks.
Read back the discussion, it's about Nibali attacking on MTF finishes. Did you forget?
