Attacked in many mountain stages?? LOL

Nice joke. I've only ever seen Nibali clamp on to other wheels in mountain stages. Maybe you should rewatch the Vuelta 10 stages. :D Nibali only limits damage. He doesn't attack. But react

I'll refresh your memory: Fränk crashed (and left the race) last year on stage 3 of the Tour. This year crashes were on stage 9. And last year there was one more week between end of Tour and start of Vuelta.

my bad sorry memory whipe, i would say however frank had less interest in doing well than VanDen B and Wiggin who want test themselves here, wiggins judging by yesterday is here to do well

Very hard to pick a winner of this stage. I don't think it will create big time differences. Somebody like Roche or Jrod can win in a sprint.

Maybe you should rewatch the Giro 2010 stages.

From the cyclingnews report on the Monte Grappa stage:

Nibali was the first to attack out of the front group, with Scarponi right behind him. Evans fought his way up to the two, bringing Basso with him.

Hey, I've long since admitted Nibali is very consistent and an excellent GT racer, probably one of the worlds best and most consistent.

But I'm not going to admit to things he's not. For one, he's not an attacker in mountain finishes. I mean cmon, how obvious does this one get? He's a follower until he can't and choses own pace. Not an attacker, never was one.

This is you being impossible now, not me.

And all his other glasses for that matter.

Nibali will most def. be close today. IMO he's actually the most reliable card to play for a good finish today.

Just out of interest Dekker, how many riders do you consider attacking ones? Gesink (wheelsucker imo) and Contador?

No BMC riders? Geez! Surely they could of put Tschopp of Santa in the break. Anyway., Lets hope Matthias can show what he's got on Sierra nevada.

Gesink a wheelsucker? Maybe, he's in the grey area. When he can he attacks, but usually he's already at the limit of following. Plus diesels like Basso, Gesink and Nibali are nearly never attackers. They just try to ride their own pace as good as they can.

Contador definately, Joaquim Rodriguez, Igor Anton, Samuel Sanchez, the Schlecks sometimes..those are attackers
forgot guys like Jose Rujano, the Colombians, Chris Horner (when he's good)...

Prior to this Tour Samuel Sánchez was among the most conservative riders in the top of the sport. Nibali attacked more than him.

If attacks in the last k count, I can give you examples of a few Nibali did in last years Vuelta and in this years Giro.

Nibali isn't the world's most explosive rider and hence can't really attack the way guys like Contador can. He's a calculating rider, but that's why I like him. Despite being less naturally gifted than others, he uses those abilities to the absolute max and has gotten some very nice victories out of that. He's pretty much the exact opposite of Andy Schleck, one of the most talented riders of recent history whose complete lack of race tactics and motivation has prevented him from building a palmares as good as it could be.

Go watch every race Samu lost because he was too conservative, then stop selectively forgetting about the times Nibali attacked. Like Giro 11.

Another one for the ignore list, jebus Boomcie, what happened on your vacation? Was it that bad?

Nah, it was awesome. Time of total relaxation and deep reflection. Maybe that's why you come across as such an obnoxious individual now.

Sorry to intervene with the actual topic again people, but it's stronger than me. But D_T took the wise and mature decision of putting me on his massive and totally cool ignore list. Good news is he won't read this post and therefore can't reply to it.

On topic: Really hope Anton will prove the tales about his terrible shape wrong.

Nibali attacked in the Giro 11? I've seen him trying at the Etna once. Other than that I've only seen him ride own pace and finishing in front groups.
He's a good tempo climber but he nearly never attacks. (that would be stupid too, and Nibali is smart)

Funny how you watch the same race and see something completely different. Nibali the attacker uphill. I giggle. Maybe you are confusing his downhill attacks for mountain attacks.
Read back the discussion, it's about Nibali attacking on MTF finishes. Did you forget?
