How come there isn't a thread for this yet? I was afraid we'd had to discuss this in the lesser known races thread.

Starting times in local time (BST)

Comment from Escartín
The inaugural stage of La Vuelta will, once again, be an individual time trial – this time consisting of a 12 km route near the mouth of the Tajo River. It will be a powerful, speedy time trial designed for true specialists. The coastal wind may play a pivotal role.

Procissões têm o cheiro a rosmaninho
Nas tascas das vielas mais escondidas
Cheira a iscas com elas e a vinho

Um cravo numa água-furtada
Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa
Uma rosa a florir na tapada
Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa

E o fado cheira sempre a solidão

Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa
Uma rosa a florir na tapada
Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa

Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa

Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa

So excited for this start in my lovely city, full of history! A shame Pogacar isn't here but can't wait to see Roglic and Almeida starting his TT and seeing them in Cruz Quebrada!! Vamos João! Bota lume!

Hard to see past Tarling on this one.

Van Aert will likely be his closer challenger.

Roglič and Almeida should be the best among GC riders.

Yeah, under normal circumstances I don't see any way Tarling doesn't win this. There is one single turn, and it comes after a few hundred metres. And the rest is head down, full throttle all the way. Zero coasting.
I reckon whoever finishes #2 does so at a disadvantage of at least 15 seconds. Tarling is a master at these semi short distances. Different circumstances and all, but in Paris the gap between Wout and Tarling at IT1 was only 3 seconds in favour of Wout, despite the (in)famous flat.

I would take Kirby at this point tbh. Just put it on and Hannah Walker is on comms on the international feed (along with Koen de Kort apparently, but we can't hear him). Sigh.
