Good win by Quintana. I just read an interview where Poels says that he - together with Hoogerland - left the attack too late as Quintana was already long gone and stayed well in front. Good sign for Poels and this season.
-----------------

As for Kelderman, too bad for the kid. I know he was extremely unfortunate, I just hope it won't turn into a regular occurrence - as I have already mentioned once before.
The Gesink being a Smyd type domestique comment is as ignorant as it is preposterous. Get a hobby.

Kelderman dishing out the pain at the bottom of the climb.

Nice. He was working at the bottom and still manage to be at the top with Gesink. Seems like its just a matter of time when he will get a decent result. Just need to avoid crashes and sickness. Maybe in Catalunya ?

Good win for Quintana - JTL not invincible after all!

A real shame to hear about Valls and Kelderman though. Valls broke a rib according to bici - any news on Kelderman?

Quintana dropped JTL 1.5km after the climb begun. JTL attacked at the foot and Quintana was with him until he was tired of JTL and attacked himself.

JTL was dropped far before the downhill began and was even caught by Poels. Poels dropped JTL in downhill. End of story.
Even JTL has clear limits it sees. Porte from Algarve would have probably killed him too

Kelderman is ok. He had a sudden puncture in the downhill which caused his crash. Only his bike was completely broken

Thanks, that's good to know.

According to the Movistar press release, Quintana dropped Tiernan-Locke 1.5km from the top of the climb, rather than the bottom.

My spanish is rusty, clearly

Either way. Quintana dropped JTL and Poels caught up with him. Poels said that he attacked too late with Hoogerland and therefore could not catch up to Quintana.

He seems in good form, but it's a different level of racing in Catalunya.

Probably the most difficult stage of the season in Europe until the Giro.

Yeah, it seems there was a chasing group with Poels, Hoogerland, Sanchez, and Valls. Poels broke away from the others and overtook Tiernan-Locke on the descent (not 100 % sure about the last point - it may be that he caught him before the top of the climb as well).

Not quite. For 7km Quintana just followed jtl and I'd no work, into a headwind. So you're talking utter rubbish, not for the first time.

I'm just pharaphrasing Quintana here. He literally said, "JTL attacked hard at the base and tried to drop me like in Haut Var. But this time I stayed with him and attacked myself with 1.5km to go"

So goodbye now mr. JTL fanboy

So it's jtl's version against Quintana then? If it wax mollema for example who'd attacked and led for 7km then Quintana came round 1.5km from the top would you still be saying that?

According to the results of the web site of the race, Tiernan Locke was 2nd on the top of the Collado Bermejo with Poels 3rd. However that doesn't mean that Poels did not catch him before the top.

But definately a great win for Quintana :)

Their versions are the same. Quintana describes it as staying with JTL and then attacking with 1.5 km to go, Tiernan-Locke describes it as Quintana sitting on and him (JTL) weakening towards the top of the climb as a result of riding in the wind.

He won the mountains in Catalunya, crashed out of the Vuelta a Colombia, and in Avenir he got stuck at a level crossing, crashed, and ended up working for Chaves. Other than that... he did ok in Castilla y Leon I think. Colombia es Pasion had a pretty thin race programme (they weren't allowed to do Clasico RCN or other non-UCI rated Colombian races), so that was about it.

Quintana got sick at the wrong moment last year. There's nothing much to it really. He still won the mountains classification of a World tour race last year (Tour of Catalunya).
He also was 15th in the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon and 18th in the klasika primavera. Nothing great, granted, but not that bad for a 21 year old boy

Still, for folk on here criticising jtl, at least he gave it a go. The criticism for him is a joke.
