OT, but seeing Cobo made me think... why is there no pro level Vuelta a Cantabria? There'd be some pretty good climbs to make a very good 5-6 day race in the same vein as this one.

Yes, I know, funding, but we've lost Galiza to the amateur ranks, Aragón and Comunidad Valenciana entirely, but Cantabria? Never really been a big race.

this is often done in sotuhern countrys cuz of the heat I think. doesn't make too much difference on a short course like this

Well, they have the Circuito Montañés, but not even in the 90s when there was money for this kind of thing and cycling was more popular did they make any attemt to become a fully professional race, since it's the most iconic amateur(ish) race in the Spanish calendar and they're proud of that.

Not that Spanish cycling needs more stage races, anyway. They should have capitalized on Freire's success to set up a decent one-day race.

Shilov was 2nd this morning in the sprint too. Riding for the Russian national team. It isn't the same guy as the XC skier/biathlete!

This Sergej Shilov is 23, and an okay talent, but that he's already spent a year on the shelf for testing positive on the Russian domestic calendar doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
