Sastre is a bit of a joke. Okay, few people do two GTs (let alone three) at top level anymore, kudos for that, but he uses every other race (certainly those in the early season) to simply stroll around, and he's always talking about how he's getting better and everything's going to plan. Even though he's in a non-World Tour team that should have something to prove this season.

It's been the case for at least a decade. At 36 with quite likely a final (rather substantial from what I've read) contract there's little reason for him to change his approach.

Despite the low budget this race seems to have as well as the lack of support, the course looks like good.

You're right, but he's taking it to new levels. I just checked and apparently last year he only did 6 races (!!).

what an utter joke.

just curious, how much does someone like duarte get?

I have no idea but he makes quite a lot for a "neo" as Gianetti has been trying to get him for years. He offered Henao around 200.000 euros a year last year and he refused so I think Duarte a little more as he has refused before as well. of course it's nothing compared to the class rider he is but I assume within 1 or 2 years he will make a lot more.

gianetti is crazy

IIRC he wanted to be fresh in the Giro which didn't go to plan and then the season planning just snowballed from there.

Edit: at least it's already the 3rd race that he is doing this year

Sastre's bet is TGBM!

He's got seized by the Dutch :D

Other excerpts from Sastre's words:
He's still recovering form a lung affection (IIRC he got it in Catalunya)
The Pope will be team leader in the Giro

Lol. So the leader makes 600,000 euros less than his helper.

Maybe Sastre doesn't actually get those 600,000 euros. Maybe they end up in Gianetti's pocket.

Infantino can't believe he's on TV lol.
Interesting that, instead of saying yesterday's last climb wasn't steep enough, he pointed out that they didn't choose adequate gears for the Peñón and wasted too much energy before the Laguna de los Peces.
