Unbelievable. How could anyone in their right mind look at this and think that it's a safe for a large mass of rapidly moving riders to race through without the potential for catastrophe? Wow!

Additionally don't they usually have a road marshall with flags waving standing in front of road furniture of which this definitely is??? That should have been the minimum they should've done, not just stuck frakkin' cones on top of the poles and let that suffice. The idea presented above of erecting barriers around the poles, narrowing the road for that brief area, should have been done if they just had to use that particular road in the finale.

Sometimes I wonder whether race organisers have ever ridden a bike themselves, if I look at the finale of certain stages.

I don't know if I agree with that, neither of the other two have featured as prominently as he does in GT sprints, which shpuld be the main parameter.

I agree with you, but when was the last time Meersman or Swift had a team dedicated to leading them out in a GT?

All of the teams should all drop out. It would send a message to all race organizations that safety should be a priority. That's beyond unacceptable. They could have easily set up barriers. Someone fell asleep at the switch.

Ben Swift nowhere to be seen... Not sure what Swift's value to Sky is supposed to be if he can't compete in finishes like these which are supposed to be his territory.

To be fair, my guess is that the organisers, or those responsible for placing the barriers at the finale, did not imagine such a big group coming together. Sure, all finishing scenarios must be pondered, but the outraged bandwagon here making it as if it was some deliberate action is just absurd. Don't think the ones responsible are content that it happened. Letting alow those emotions flow and spouting them like that make you look like very unreasonable persons. Plus, you don't know if they had ran out of barriers or didn't have the logistics at the time they noticed the road furniture,w hcih may have been late, and had to improvise. Wishing that people lose their jobs or slandering them like that is just one of those 'what the ***' reactions to me. Of all the mistakes you may have done throughout your job life, you're just lucky you don't have to answer for the integrity of others. Plus, I very much doubt this was the first time for the organisers at the finish, and I also don't recall anything like this.

Regarding today. Boring, but managed to watch all the 80ks on TV. Kwiatkowski wants everything, may end up with nothing by the end of the week. He seriously needs to learn how to preserve energy. You may say it's ambitious and a virtue to try and contest for all those sprints, I think it's just stupid. No other contender tries that, and we know Michał eventually fades in week races precisely due to his unnecessary efforts.

That prolouge win in Criterium International was probably the breakthrough mentally for him. If he can actually win races, he can win lots of them. Hills, tt's, sprints in small groups and medium mountains.

Of course it wasn't a deliberate action in the sense of let's see how many riders we can get hurt by this! and of course whoever did it realise it wasn't a good idea.
But not noticing the road furniture until late? Come on! Surely they go and check all the finishes at least some weeks in advance.
