Malori doesn't beat Dumoulin in long flat itt's, maybe short ones. But that doesn't make him a better itt-er. More like a better prologue/short ITT specialist.

Next.

Doesn't make Dumoulin either
ofcourse it does.

A time trial specialist, to me, is one who excels at longer time trials especially.

Malori is a decent ITT-er, but more a prologue specialist. Not the better time trialler

Well to me they're pretty much equal. Dumoulin beat Malori in ONE long TT, and Malori beat him in 3 short ones, to me it looks equal. As long as Dumoulin doesn't start to beat Malori regularly, he is not better. Actually it's 11-5 in ITT wins for Malori, but that WC performance of Dumoulin brings back the balance.

Interesting end to the race. The terrain was too much for TJVG and Martin as expected. Incredible ride by Doumoulin and excellent win by Rodriguez. I did not know Felline was so good at the TT. I think the riders will be sick of seeing the final climb by now !

As expected? TJVG is a good ttist and he is a climber. I was expecting him to do well.
Tejay showed pretty well on short steep stuff as an espoir and in 2010 with HTC, but as he's grown older he's much favoured the longer, more drawn-out climbs and though he's not a scrub on the steep stuff, he's never really looked like competing with the flyweights on it. His best mountain results outside of the Tour (which is obviously his season's peak) have been at Catalunya and the US stage races where the climbing is typically more gradual, and he has little to no results in hilly one-day racing to speak of; him losing out on a climb like Aia is definitely not surprising in the slightest.

Put it the other way around. Let Malori prove he can do the same as Dumoulin in Tour de France ITT and World Championships at that level. Then we'll speak again. Now he is below Dumoulin. Easy as that

Ok, ya that makes sense.

Cance isn't really up there in tt's anymore unlesd they are prologues or very technical. In a long, flattish tt I can only see two riders better than Dumoulin, Tony and Wiggins.

I'd say Kwiatowski could be better than him in a long ITT, while Dennis has the capability this year to be a challenger in long ITT's (I hope :) )

Some people have made too much of Quintana not winning. He clearly wasn't at his best all week; I find it encouraging that he was still able to fight for a podium. I would be a lot more concerned if he had the kind of lopsided up and downs that other top riders are known for, e.g. Froome and Nibali, Also, people forget that this has become a normal situation for Quintana. E.g., last year he was in similar form during the first half of the Giro and at the beginning of the Vuelta.
