What a great win by Purito!! And making the fact he won this in a TT, makes it the most beautiful win in his career!

Spilak wouldn't won this race ofcourse. Come on guys, he would never finished 20 seconds in front of Purito in this TT.
Congratulations! :)

Hands down the best rider this week, very well done. Can't say I expected that to be the case after he had to skip Catalunya.

Thanks Netserk, appreciate that :)

After so many horrible TT's, and a difficult start to the season, i didn't expect it at all either.

Strange how people are surprised by Purito doing well in a TT which mainly involves climbing steep slopes

I'm mainly surprised by Dumoulin.

Well, he's perhaps the best TT'er in the world behind Martin, and a better climber then Tony.

great ride by Purito. And the youngster Yates. I was pulling for him. It's nice to see a youngster can spoil the party. But it's not meant to be. At least, a very thrilling finale and all week. Quintana is a little overrated on this race. He wasn't that impressive since the start of the race either. Maybe Romandie.

Cancellara isn't clearly better anymore. The cycling world chances.

And Malori is better in shorter TT's, not longer ones.

Got to say, the commentators were absolutely diabolical today, they didn't have the first clue about what was going on.

Well, Malori is pretty bad in hilly TTs, that's the main difference. Malori was pretty pissed after the WC ITT, he started way to slow because he feared the climb in the 2nd part of the TT and was still pretty fresh when he arrived at the finish line. If it's plain flat Malori is at least as strong as Dumoulin in a long TT.

Quintana shows he is struggling with TTs. That TdF time trial, even short, might prove fatal for his bid to win overall.

Re: Re:

Ok, i'll give you that. But there is no evidence that Malori is clearly better then Dumoulin in a long TT. That's the point i want to make.

Yes, last years WC ITT is pretty much the only long TT that we can use to compare those two, but like i said Dumolin is a way better climber. This years ITT WC seems to be flater so it should be an interesting fight between those two.

Let's not forget Wiggins here, who in top form smashed Tony last Worlds.

But Wiggo wil not return to top level after PR.

This!
They ignored the intermediate times that showed JRod was faster then either Quintana or Henao.
Then they talked up the Sky & Yates - for the anglo angle.
Tomorrow Wiggo PR will be even worse on EuroSport.

Cance isn't really up there in tt's anymore unlesd they are prologues or very technical. In a long, flattish tt I can only see two riders better than Dumoulin, Tony and Wiggins.

Liege, really? He needs to show some better climbing first even though he has improved a lot. Riders like Henao, Purito, Valverde, Gerrans, Martin, Kwiatkowski and maybe even Gilber are still bigger favourites than Dumoulin.

Not with Rob Hatch, as he is a proper commentator. I.e not bias that much.

What a glorious day!
Dumoulin wins the TT and Purito the GC!

This was a TT for Purito, if I recall correctly a few years back during an other crazy TT at Basque Purito also rode a great TT. This kind of course is perfect for him.

Dumoulin winning this TT is also great. Really love the guy, hope he has the balls to attack at Amstel or Liege. He should never wait until that final climb imo.

I fixed that for you. And yes the first TT is usually flat as a pancake.

didn't see a thing but fantastic to see Dumoulin winning such a hard and testing ITT. He's ready for the Ardennes as a dark horse. Such a big engine and still good enough uphill.

Surprising win by Purito, but you could see all week he was strong. Surprisingly 'meh' by Quintana, he didn't have the best week.

But one that is won by a pure time trialist?
He must climb well to win this TT I guess. So it is a combination of the two skills I'd say.

Cancellara isn't better anymore and Malori certainly isn't. Dumoulin has beaten both on several occasions last year.
Wiggo, yeah obviously. But he's almost reitred.

Surprised you name Malori btw, almost made me laugh, he's been beaten by Dumoulin on so many occassions it's not even funny
