Froome is endangering his Vuelta.

He's pissing off Terpstra

He dont want to do that !!!!! :surprised:

I find Froome is missing some emotional intelligence ...he is a nice mannered chap and is bright but emotionally he is not quite right

he is so determined to make history and go down as the best and win it all.....he is forgettign that cycling is also about popularity....a win is just a win unless you win over the fans

As in Gladiator " I was the best not because I won but because I won over the crowd" (or words to that effect

And that's why Poulidor was better than Anquetil, right?

We want riders to attack, to entertain, to compete. The more actual racing and the less boring processional stuff, the better.

Some people seem to think that only their favorite riders have a god given right to attack entertain and compete. If their rivals try to do the same they are being a-holes.

Has anyone made de calculations as to where Trentin/Froome need to finish now?
Trentin wins the stage & Froome 14th or lower, Trentin wins the jersey. Froome 13th, countback. Froome 12th or better, Froome gets the jersey.
Trentin doesn't win the stage, Froome gets another jersey.

I heard elsewhere that if Trentin won maximum intermediates but came 2nd he would also win. That's if Froome doesn't get into the top 15 I guess.

He's probably still comparing himself to Wiggins as the baseline.

Edited by King Boonen.

So when Valverde takes points in intermediates and the final sprint in Madrid to beat Purito out of the points jersey, it's all fine
Note that Valverde wasn't risking an overall victory.

I have no problem with Froome contending this jersey today. I think it's commendable. But it might not be super intelligent.

If this was Contador going for Green, you'd be saying it was the sign of a great champion. Because it's Froome it is a "lack of emotional intelligence".

GT Jerseys are earned through racing, not gifts. If Trentin wants it, he should earn it and he is good enough to do so.

I would say the same about anyone in red
Also Contdor wouldnt do it
The thing is by SKY going for it ...fine...but wont be popular . Froome could crash and also tiring out Trentin my mean he has no chance in the final ...

Hinault won a bunch sprint on the Champs-Élysées. Because he could.

No fucks given.

So Trentin tiring himself out would be Froome's fault and not Trentins? Laughable.

Whoever told you that was incorrect. In the scenario you gave above.

Trentin = 127 + 4 + 20 = 151
Froome = 153 + 0 + 0 = 153

Froome wins

No **** given.

In the days when only captains were allowed to go for the win. :lol:

But.... Are you not entertained?

Lol he said that after he had been killing everyone in a rage. That's why Proximo would point out that "win the crowd and you win your freedom" (meaning he gets too popular for even the emperor to touch him).

Same principle here. Had Froome been loved by everyone (except Trentin fans) would have been comfortable with it.

Yeah, I noted. Him taking that risk is hardly something that should make people vent their anger at him, though.

Regardless of what the fans may think, you never know when having friends in the péloton and favours to call in could come in useful. At the moment, Sky are so super-strong that they don't really care whose toes they tread on. But those toes could be connected to a foot that one day will kick you when you're on the way down.

There's nothing wrong with Froome going for the intermediate sprint and trying to keep the green jersey. FWIW I think Froome despite his rather mild-mannered demeanour still wants to stamp some authority on the race and show some ruthlessness, and perhaps that is partly fuelled by not feeling that he gets the respect from the fans that a multiple champion deserves. I'm the best, and I'll prove it. However, memories are long in cycling and you never know when you might need to call on others to collaborate, and if you alienate all the other teams, then you won't find many willing allies.

Good posts from both. Froome going for green is good for race and commendable but maybe in a few years QS may remember it and not ally with him when Froome needs them.
