Zero, because there is no broadcast at that point in time?

I could see Unipublic managers sad because they didn't get a sprint today.
Last year on Gardeccia the spanish TV commentator was saying something like "it's more exciting to see larger groups sprinting for the win rather than everyone by himself"
*facepalm*
They're trying a huge brainwash there in Spain. I'm really happy a truly epic stage has come out. Maybe 'casual fans' will notice how this is a million times better than uphill sprints.

OK, while it may be negative to see that the ridiculous parcours may be seen as something to aspire to, better TV viewing figures means the race is more attractive to sponsors and prospective host towns. Meaning we could see more varied routes in the near future, rather than the usual (Jaén, Gijón, Córdoba, Talavera de la Reina, Ávila, Burgos - you know, the towns that it's actually a surprise when very few of them actually feature on the route), and meaning that if sponsors perceive interest to be back on the increase, we might see renewed interest for those Spanish races under threat (Asturias, Murcía, Castilla y León).

The rough parcours may be a problem, but there are positives to see.

That was the summer when Florentino Perez went off on a mad one and bought Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema, and Alonso. That why it was front page.

Yeah but everyone already knew that - especially if they read marca which is basically pravda for real fans.

The front page seems to be announcing the alleged starting eleven for a preseason friendly against S. Rovers, which sounds like the sunday league team our uni team played when we went out for a weekend to southend.

The stages when you switch on the tv and all the gaps are already made and all you are watching are the timechecks, arent that great either. The excitement is the attacks themselves and watching if they stick. I think most viewers will therefore probably have enjoyed Lagos Covadonga more than today where they switch on the tv and Contador has the race already won.

Don't troll, you know that is not true...

Besides, it's the broadcaster/organisers who are to blame for that, not the stage.

Yes, but the increased audience figures might mean they allot more time to it going forward, especially with a key race-making event happening outside of the broadcast events.

On the Vuelta, I rememer Kelly and Harmon discussing this during last year's race and saying that the Vuelta does'nt get anywhere near the coverage in the sports papers like the Giro and the Tour do with Gazzetta and L'Equipe. Is this true?
Yes, but that doesn't mean it doesn't get coverage. There's plenty of stuff about the stages, with climb profiles, interviews inside the péloton and full page spreads even in non-specialist papers, but it doesn't get the coverage the Giro or Tour do by a long shot. Also, the time of year doesn't help it of course, with August and September being early on in football season and with the transfer window closing partway through as well. However, there are some positives. For example, ETB have been broadcasting profiles of the coming day's racing in their main daily news program along with interviews and discussion, as a main story in the sports section.

Yes i found something like Lagos de Covadonga or Zoncolan more interesting than say laquilla where i switched on the tv, watched a clock go from 15-10 minutes for half an hour, then got shown highlights of California for 10 minutes before the favorites went over the line. Had the stages been broadcast from the start maybe it would have been different, but they werent and all i saw was the broadcasters switching from 1 peloton to another.

thats my opinion. If you are going to call it trolling then it seems your not open to any discussion whatsoever.

That's Shamrock Rovers in our top league over here. That was the first game that Ronaldo and all the big signings were playing in a R.Madrid shirt in Dublin. I remember watching that game. That's why it got on the front page actually.

I was joking about Shamrock Rovers;)

And gazzeta obviously covers giro since they are the main sponsor. As for lequipe and the tour, well its the tour, not like theres anything else in july anyhow.

Is that referring to today's stage? Are you describing what we saw it as "broadcasters switching from one peloton to another"? Really??

I accused you of trolling because I (honestly) thought you were joking.

no i was reffering to laquilla (hence the bit about them then switching to the tour of cali - well es did anyway).

I'll never understand how so many people can rate the 2012 Giro so highly.

I didn't think it was that bad. I was just disappointed in the performances by riders like Basso and Kreuziger. I thought the Tour was the worst this year. Combination of dull route and total domination by Sky. Sky fans obviously did not mind. The Vuelta has been good but so was last year's. Incredibly hard race.

I dont understand the people who says "Wow what an amazing Vuelta a España, the Vuelta **** the TDF, the Tour was so boring..." Guys, are you jocking? Did you see the stages of Belles Filles, Porrentruy or La Toussuire? Did you see it? Theres one stage of this Vuelta apart Fuente Dé that can beat the last two i have mentioned? Tell me one in this Vuelta better than the Porrentruy stage. A great day where all seen an amazing fight of a lot of kilometres to make the break away, an incredible demonstration of Kessiakoff and Pinot, battle of the GC guys the last 30 kms... The Toussuire day, a high level break away, a nice performance of Pierre Rolland, high rhytm in Madeleine and CDF, attacks of Van Garderen and Evans since 60 kms to go... then moves of Brajkovic, Nibali, Van Den Broeck and Pinot for more than 10 kms to the end, Froome dropping Wiggins, the battle Rolland-Kiserlovski... Then the Pyrinées were **** but the first two weeks in my opinion were better by far than the Vuelta. Other thing is that Contador be in. Only count the hours of show in the stages i have mentioned of the Tour and in the Vuelta stages. Sorry for my english.

So what is today's marca like?

Very similar to the one after the Verbier stage.

I'm not agree. The Tour was boring, this Vuelta is very fun.

I doubt that you saw all the stages of the TDF. If this Vuelta is " very fun" is because here is Alberto Contador. Nobody remember the 2011 and 2010 Vuelta a España, do you remember it? Only the freaks of cycling remember it. The only differece between those editions and the 2012 Vuelta is that here is Alberto Contador. All the Vuelta stages have offered us the same view, except Fuente De, why? Because of Alberto Contador. As i say the same view, 15 minutes of show in the final climbs, attacks in the last 5 kms, differences of 10 or 20 seconds... This is a nice GT? This is what they want the fans of cycling? Will you remenber any of this Vuelta apart the Fuente De stage? What? Tell me what, give me arguments. I'll remenber the Belles Filles stage as one of the best dominations of a team, the Porrentruys stage because of the Pinot's show, the born of a huge rider, i'll remember the Toussuire stage because of the demonstration of courage by Evans, the exhibition of Rolland, the attacks of Nibali and Van Den Broeck... What will do you remenber of this Vuelta? When Rodrìguez took 5" ahead Valverde or Contador in Jaca or Gallina?
Do you love cycling? Are you telling me that you prefer stages of 10 minutes of movements before hours of intensive riding as we saw in the stages i've mentioned? If the cycling fans prefer this the sport is on decline.

Yes I saw All the stages of le Tour; and the Giro and the Vuelta. For GC showdown and excitement Vuelta is Far Ahead. Giro is 2nd; loved Rabbotini's win, but decisive stages where a lot of waiting...then little happened. Last few days were awesome. Tour least exciting....watching one team dominant and their leader Never make an attack...boring.... Rollands win was great; I had a bet on him :)

And yes Contador makes any race he rides Exciting...can you deny that??? Geez the Vuelta had more attacks in 1 week than the entire Tour put together.

The riders make the race regardless of the parcours.....Sky/Wiggins=boring, Giro better, Vuelta Electric!!
