The Back Abbey gets a tip of the hat. Not to far from me in Monrovia. Also near you Scott?

Beer is a serious business at Glendora liquor store
From the outside, Lone Hill Liquor doesn't look like much. There's not much in its appearance to differentiate it from countless other strip-mall liquor stores.

But as is often said, it's what's on the inside that counts.

Beyond the doors, owner George Safar and Manager Stanley Segovia maintain a beer selection that can reach upwards of 750 varieties, depending on which seasonal and limited-run brews are available.

So, I've been building this thing, like a frame, for a collection of cans to hang on the wall. I want to add a small plaque with a good quote about beer, but I haven't found one to enlightening. What are some great beer quotes worthy of display?

I'm considering:

“This is grain… which any fool can eat. But for which the Lord intended, a more divine means of consumption. Let us give praise to our maker, and glory to His bounty, by learning about….. beer.” – Friar Tuck, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Any other good ones to consider?

The Back Abbey is about a 30 minute drive from my house. Well worth it though.

There's a new place a little closer to me in Riverside called The Salted Pig. If you are ever near there you might want to check it out.

Big weekend for beer. Headed to a Bills game and adventured around the before. For anyone in the States who finds themselves in Buffalo, NY must go to The Blue Monk. 32 taps of great beer, mostly from Belgium and other European nations. Its only been open a year apparently, but wow, great people, great selection, and a great time (closes at 4:00 am ;)). I was somewhere between being a good friend in recommending beers, or being selfish in knowing that I could try a whole bunch...

I had aDelerium Noel, Christoffel Bokbier and St. Feullien Saison, and tried a Kwak, and a Maudite. They were all great.

At another place may have been my favorite though, Oskar Blues Ten Fidy.

My brother got me a box of Duff Beer, the same beer that Homer Simpson drinks. I haven't tried it yet as I have a stomach bug.

Coincidentally my flatmate received a 6-pack for Christmas and he rates it as a beer. It actually comes from Germany.

Last night had an Avery Old Jubilation Ale...excellent.
brewed right here in Boulder. :p

I have yet to have anything from Avery that is anything other than spectacular. I am a huge fan. In fact, outside of a couple of breweries here in Cali, Avery, Deschutes and Allagash... Ok Ommegang are my favorite American Craft Brewers.

I had a friend in town who has been brewing his own beer for 30 years! He was on a tasting tour of pretty much all of the breweries and pubs from Ft Collins down to Denver with stops in between!

If you're heading in the direction of CO send a ping...we might just get a Forum group of beer afficianados together. :p maybe around the 'Big CO RACE' next summer...

...and @Zam...yes we do drink cold beer in winter here :D weird huh?

Cheers to all you Beer Lovers

Happy New Year all. I recently came across an article which I found way back in '95. Remarkable. Funny. Sobering. All at the same time. Hope it pastes OK. Skol!

HEADLINE: 50 PINTS A DAY;
BUT I'M A WORKAHOLIC NOT AN ALCOHOLIC SAYS DECORATOR IAN;
BOOZER IAN BUTLER WHO DRINKS 5O PINTS OF BEER A DAY

BYLINE: Joe Roberts

BODY:
BOOZY Ian Butler guzzles down 50 PINTS of beer a day - but he claimed
yesterday: "I'm a workaholic, not an alcoholic."

Painter and decorator Ian, who earns L 500 a week and drinks L 300 of it,
added: "I work hard and I enjoy my pint to relax. It's up to me how I spend my
money and I love being in the pub."

Ian's amazing drinking habit was revealed when he was convicted of drink
driving.

A court heard that the 39-year-old bachelor knocks back a bathtub of beer
every day - a weekly intake of 700 alcohol units compared with the safe level
for men of just 20.

Ian, of Cardiff, downed another pint as he said: "Yes, I am proud of how
much I can drink - but I don't like boasting about it.

Mountain "Everyone has got to be good at something and I'm good at drinking
beer. It is like a mountain before me every day - I've just got to climb it.

"I'm never happier than with a pint in my hand. I've never met anyone who
can drink more than me over a long period.

"But I do the jobs of two or three men. I work very, very hard. Then I love
having my pint as a reward."

Ian says he never has hangovers "because it never has a chance to catch me
up". And he doesn't want luxuries like a big house, holidays or a flash car.

But self-employed Ian does feel ashamed of being caught driving home three
times over the limit. He was banned for three years, given a year's probation
and agreed to have drink counselling.

Ian said: "I know my health will suffer if I carry on drinking this much.
But I won't stop immediately. I'll try to cut it down over the next few months.

"Hopefully I can get down to about 10 pints a day - that's fine for most
people, I expect."
