Question. Am I tasting "That Taste" in Newcastle Brown?

I have not tasted a Newcastle Brown for a very very long time. Try this. Get a green bottle of Heinie and make sure it gets lots of light exposure, either natural or florescent. It should become light struck. Then pour it into a glass at a warmish beer temp, not your icy cold North / South American / Ozzie near freezing temp. You should smell the funky, skunky hops. Problem is many people expect those beers to taste that way, and even may come to like it. Like walking with a limp, it just seems natural after a while. The NC Brown could also use pre-isomerized hop extracts

Enough of the Corona-lites already!

It's Friday morning and that means I'm just hours away from a beer or ten.

Went to a decent drankenhandel in Winksele last week and bought a few beauties, of which I hereby present Exhibit A:

De Struise Pannepot, a classic from everyone's favourite ostrich farmers. Bracing, fresh and coolly uncool, just like that stretch of the Vlaamse Kust that it evokes.

10% ABV, brewed with spices and aged in oak barrels.

That's not my dirty kitchen surface, just in case you were wondering...

Hey guys any thoughts on the Back Abbey?
I know for sure I will be going to the TT on the 22nd. Miss Susan and I will take the Goldline to downtown and go from there maybe breakfast at Phillipe's and there are several landmark restaurants along the Goldline. I think her friend and husband will join us. I understand he races but is a big Lance fan As far as the Back Abbey with the change in the 6th stage starting from Palmdale instead of Pasadena any changes in peoples plans. If we do get together I will be renting a room in one of the nearby Motels I am willing to share.

It's that time of year again.. Just loaded up 3 growlers of the finest Maibock from my local brew pub, Town Hall Brewery. Affectionately known as "Mindblock". This style of beer actually broke up my friends band.

Earlier had one of these ...

Abbaye des Rocs Brune (9% ABV). Lovely stuff. Black as night with bags of sediment. Details here.

Now having one of these now as I write. It's a Wostyntje Mustard Ale from Torhout. My colour's darker, but that's because I've got the whole sediment thing going on - and that's where the mustard is.

It's quite friendly, really. Some sips can turn into a bit of a nose-burner, but on the whole it's rather light and full of honey, not dissimilar to a more peppery one I had on tap at Café Delirium a few months ago. Were there to be such a thing as after-dinner beer, this would be in there!

7% ABV from Brouwerij Smisje. Reviews at BeerAdvocate.

Ellezelles is fictional detective Hercule Poirot's hometown. The beer tastes marvellously of cigars and wood but is lighter than a 'proper' stout. 330ml / 9% ABV

Working in the brewery today

and I came across an old bottle of "the anti-beer".

anyone remembeer this? as clear as water, almost no taste but not refreshing as water, like "Zima" only lighter.... it was test marketed in a few places, like Minneapolis. I got a sample and the rest as they say, did not become history..
