Any Londoners out there who have tried this?

Wonder if it is as cantenkorous and curmudgeonly as MES is.

Hey Scott:D
Gastropub with a flare for monastic beer, style plans to open in Azusa this summer
Only seven Trappist monasteries in the world have monks that brew Trappist beer - six of which are in Belgium.

Now, one restaurateur wants to bring a bit of that to Azusa.

I predict a stunning success:D

Hard to go wrong when the opening line in the newpaper piece talks about Trappist beer that will be served. Interesting they mention the Back Abbey in the article. That place is popular to the point of being hard to even get in. I won't even go anywhere near peak hours anymore.

Azusa will be a great location. Cool 'old' downtown... should be fun.

I had this beer the other night, at 8.5%. It's not cheap though, a box of it costs $200! (FTR I only bought a single bottle)

Sorry if my kitchen looks messy, I cbf cleaning it.

I had this on tap not too long ago. My sister said it was her treat; so I didn't look at the price ;).

I came into this thread for some inspiration before I splurge on a birthday gift before myself. Said sister is planning to gift 3 months of a beer of the month club subscribtion, which I'm also looking forward to.

I'll also add this to the thread, as its the latest addition to a can collection.

I had this at a bar as part of a challenge/offer to drink all 40 New York state beers available, and was surprised that I stumbled on a pretty unique beer out of a can: a sort of banana-y clove-y hefeweizen. Still undecided on how I liked it...

Clearly you should drink more to better formulate your opinion.:)

Stopped for lunch with a friend at a local brew pub to watch stage 5 (a porter-brwon ale blend, wit, and amber ale), and here's what I nabbed for a self-gift:

312 Urban Wheat: for a little homage to my old home's signature brew.

Middle Ages Beast Bitter: for my new home, and I like ESB's

Middle Ages Gran Slayer Imperial stout: because I've never had it and am interested

and finally some Ommegang Abbey Ale, for some more local-ish flair

If you have not already tried it, the Ommegang 3 Philosophers is different and very nice.

You just had to get the Kwak glass. didnt you?? Have one myself along with a few others, the beer Kwak itself is not bad but lets be honest, most people go for the beer to get the glass.

A word to the wise with regard to the glass: be very conservative over how much you tip the contraption when drinking from it, at least until you get used to how it flows.

Watching some poor soul with Kwak foaming out of their nostrils is a sobering sight indeed. I have seen it happen several times and it isn't pretty, especially when they're trying to impress loved ones by recourse to increased authenticity. :)

Have you exchanged your US citizenship for Belgian citizenship and set up shop in Brugges?
