The Colruyt in Belgium is going to sell Westvleteren 12° the 3rd of November :D
And I'm going to go and buy 2 cases of those :D

Get in line behind me, Michiel! :D Seriously though, the story in Le Soir was poor on detail. Is it one edition = one coupon = one case of Westy? And if there are only 63,000 cases, does that mean that not every copy will contain a coupon?

I guess it's one case per coupon it wasn't so clear in De Standaard either, at least I hope so because I got both Le Vif and Knack :p Might also be one case per coupon per person... But then I'll use my little brother ^^

Beautiful day here in God's Own Country... Time for a very refreshing beer... and sit down to watch the last stage of the Herald Sun Tour live on the box.

The author has only tried one of the beers listed. I know Scott has tried at least one. Scott how many of these have you sampled.

5 Rare Beers You'll Never Get to Try

Just the Westvleteren 12.

And to correct the author, you can buy Westy at Sint Sixtus Abbey with a limit of 2 cases. Last time I was there the case price was 35 euros with a 12 euro refundable deposit on the cool wood crate the beer comes in.

Some of my cellared stash (Westvleteren 8)... notice the layer of dust on the bottles. This was brewed in March of 2009. This will be fantastic in another year or two.:D

I've had Russian River Pliny the Younger. It's occasionally on tap here in town, and if you know where you can actually buy bombers.

It was good, but didn't live up to the hype IMHO.

Pliny the Younger is available at four or five bars in San Francisco whenever it's released--most of them toward the Haight. It can also show up at the Beer Store in the Market district.

Drank a few beers yesterday, here's the top:

North Coast Imperial Stout

images

I'm a big fan of North Coast, but I don't get to try their beers often. This was an awesome beer. All the great character of a RIS, roasty malts with chocolate and coffee, was perfectly balanced, and very drinkable. A good option to get your friends to try heartier beers. I had it on tap, which was a bummer, because the art on their label is always cool.

Blowing Rock Oktoberfest

I liked this beer too, I just wish I had drank it when I ate dinner. It had a lot of spice which would have gone well with dinner; less so later at night after a few others

Anchor Humming Ale

I've only had one Anchor (the Steam) when I was in SF, but I'm liking the brewery. Granted, I had this after the stout, but it was very smooth. A good pale ale with a good body.

Fire Island made an appearance, but they were 1/2. I had their IPA and Lighthouse ale, and the IPA impressed me as I don't usually like the style, but the Lighthouse was very wheaty, like I licked a wheat husk.

ad aedificandam abbatiam adiuvi :D

Now that you have it, you'll need to cellar it for a couple of years.

Good luck with that:D

In all seriousness, if that is true then you really do need to cellar the beer... for a few months at least.

Last year at In de Vrede the 12 was as good as it normally is. I brought some home with me and had one a few weeks ago and it was very good.

Might actually have to do so, although my mom strongly disagrees with me about the taste :p I'm drinking one again on monday :)
