Scott SoCal said:In all seriousness, if that is true then you really do need to cellar the beer... for a few months at least.
Last year at In de Vrede the 12 was as good as it normally is. I brought some home with me and had one a few weeks ago and it was very good.

L'arriviste said:They're tailing off a bit now, Craig, but this should give you an idea:

L'arriviste said:I've refrained from commenting on the infamous Westvleteren Affair, as it is now known to me, because - like all good Poperinge beers - it left me with a very bitter aftertaste.
At H-Hour, I went down to my local librairie (newsagent) and the owner didn't even say hi, he just said: "Tomorrow!" He'd sold out of the relevant copies of De Standaard and hadn't received Le Vif that morning. So I got out of there as quickly and politely as I could and went to another, more scabrous establishment nearby. Already sold his few copies of De Standaard and again, no delivery of Le Vif that morning. This turned out to be a depressingly familiar pattern down here in Brussels.
I was furious. I went to the Colruyt a little later and they'd already sold all their cases anyway, presumably to people who had been able to get the coupons someplace. I was more furious.
I resolved that I would just have to go to the monastery like everyone else. The prices touted on eBay - expressly against the monks' wishes - are a complete disgrace.
The only compensation, if there's one to speak of, is that I've heard a few rumours that the quality has suffered a lot. Half a million perfect additional bottles produced in the space of eight months is rather a holy miracle...![]()

Scott SoCal said:Oh man.... sorry to have missed it.
I was in an all-day-into-the-evening business conference. I would have much rather been at the Abbey drinking Apt12 with you.
The Back Abbey is one of my favorite pubs in SoCal.
craig1985 said:Scott, you're not a part-owner of the Back Abbey by any chance?![]()
