In all seriousness, if that is true then you really do need to cellar the beer... for a few months at least.

Last year at In de Vrede the 12 was as good as it normally is. I brought some home with me and had one a few weeks ago and it was very good.

I've refrained from commenting on the infamous Westvleteren Affair, as it is now known to me, because - like all good Poperinge beers - it left me with a very bitter aftertaste.

At H-Hour, I went down to my local librairie (newsagent) and the owner didn't even say hi, he just said: "Tomorrow!" He'd sold out of the relevant copies of De Standaard and hadn't received Le Vif that morning. So I got out of there as quickly and politely as I could and went to another, more scabrous establishment nearby. Already sold his few copies of De Standaard and again, no delivery of Le Vif that morning. This turned out to be a depressingly familiar pattern down here in Brussels.

I was furious. I went to the Colruyt a little later and they'd already sold all their cases anyway, presumably to people who had been able to get the coupons someplace. I was more furious.

I resolved that I would just have to go to the monastery like everyone else. The prices touted on eBay - expressly against the monks' wishes - are a complete disgrace.

:mad::mad::mad:

The only compensation, if there's one to speak of, is that I've heard a few rumours that the quality has suffered a lot. Half a million perfect additional bottles produced in the space of eight months is rather a holy miracle... :D

Just enjoyed a nice bottle of Innis & Gunn, a Scottish ale which is matured in barrels that previously contained whisky. A strong ale with a subtle toffee taste without being sweet and of course a hint of Scotch.

Scott and Krebs at the Back Abbey? I might have to make an appearance to meet the boys from the forum....I was thinking about going back to Eureka to have another Batch 300 Trippel.

My plan on winning last night's $3m lottery jackpot was foiled on the account my ticket had the wrong numbers printed on it compared to the numbers drawn last night.

Yeah and I was going to make use of my passport and visit Belgium and request that veedeebee to share some of his Westvleteren 12 (because veedeebee is cool, right?).

Whilst we are on the topic of Belgium beer, L'arriviste, have you tried Altenmunster? I ask because a local bottle shop has them in stock (chain store Dan Murphy's).

That's a nightmare.

I'll be in Brugge in late March. I'd be happy to share some of my stash with you.

Oh man.... sorry to have missed it.

I was in an all-day-into-the-evening business conference. I would have much rather been at the Abbey drinking Apt12 with you.

The Back Abbey is one of my favorite pubs in SoCal.

I should have taken a stroll onto the back patio, I was inside, sitting at the bar. Had a Bink Tripel, not a big fan. Oh well, sometimes you sometimes you step out of the box and right into :p

Scott, you're not a part-owner of the Back Abbey by any chance? :D

:D

Noooo..... That would probably be very bad for me. Number one rule in business: don't get high on your own supply.

The good news is you discovered what you don't like. That's as important as discovering what you do like.

As an example, I am still trying to develop a taste for the sours... I have not given up yet as I really want to like them:)

brewdog brewery is up this neck of the woods, I never tried it though, I don't like their style and (probably the real reason) it isnt sold in multi packs in super markets :S...

Has anyone in blighty ever tried the carling c2 stuff I like to drink beer but I would like to drink something with less than 4% during the week I tried skol but it isn't that great, so this 2% beer interests me.
