cunego is a bit more versatile then gilbert, he can win on one of the tougher stages on his day, or if he is a break or something.

I'm not so sure he can really handle the intense pace of the tour for 3 weeks tho. Probably 10-20 and a stage win.

Yeah, but on those stages he'll probably be beaten by someone else who is more of a climber than him. If Valverde and Gilbert didn't exist we'd be calling these finishes Cunego finishes instead of Gilbert finishes :p

doing some rough calculations, Cunego averaged 6.0 watts/kg on the last 3km of the Grosse Scheidegg, nothing outlandish but TDF top-10 stuff.

Actually from Horner's SRM last year 5.9w/kg for 9km is Tour top 10. Infact if Cunego's best is 6.0 for 3km it doesn't compare to sorensons 6.6w/kg riding 3km tempo for andy schleck.

It could just be me, but it seems Cunego is, uh, less sprinter-looking this year.

2008 Tour where it was really noticeable

yesterday

that 2008 pic brings bad memories. poor guy he crashed hard that tour. and then went to completely destroy his knee on the first stage of the vuelta. i remember reading that he did most of the race with 20 something stitches in his knee.

anyway he does look thinner.

and this brings me back to the start of this season when i said(for the lulz ofc) that since cunego was quitting GT's GC and going only for the classics this year he would actually find his GT legs again.
