Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster - also an sound engineer! So heres the cleaned up version of the phone call. Its not great but better than the source!

http://d01.megashares.com/dl/2170045/greg-lemond-stephanie-mcilvain.mp3
:)

Thank you. I came here more than a few times asking people whether they have a transcript of the audio tape, or have the ability to produce one, just because I couldn't bear the quality of the original. Not one answered or helped. Going to hear it now.

What sort of sound engineering do you do at work anyway?

Just curious, but what is the process Greg likely used to record the call? Is he doing it w/ some kind of special spy-like device, or holding a digital audio recorder up to the handset, or is it something more effective but still accessible? If someone had occasion to record a call and had the consent of the other party, how would they do it (and don't say "Skype")?

Someone more widely known than me proposed we do a podcast together, but one or the other of us is going to have to call-in b/c we're in different parts of the world, and neither of us is tech-savvy in this arena...

I really don't know. Entirely plausible that he would have used a professional grade sound recorder placed next to the speaker. Another interesting question is : When this tape was produced in court to the shock of Mcllavain, how did it play out with regards to two party consent laws for phone conversation recording? Did Lemond have to pay any penalties?

From the quality of the original, I would say he just used a hand held recorder. You will need a Telephone hybrid to get the phone (depends if you have an analogue phone pm me if you want for advice - i can be a black art.

Work is here

Depends on the state. For example, in Texas I think only one party has to consent to recorded conversations (oddly enough) excluding police wire taps.

We use this in the studio for phone interviews -http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=PODCAST-HOST
but you will need an input device (to get into the computer) like these
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=USBinterfaces
what programe to record into (garageband/protools) depends on your budget.
This is a great deal for a solid mic (you will need to get a table stand but this is still a great deal)

Make sure you use the levelator to master and you are away...

Hope this helps

BTW I have really good results with skype as well. :D

Shouldn't it be "Fanboys Unfazed by New Armstrong Doping Allegations"

And does he have more than the two fans quoted in the article? Could they be the joint mastermind that is BPC here in the Clinic?

Actually, it should be "Cycling Fan" since the other person quoted in the article is a journalist...

Lance inspires not only people fighting against cancer. :)

There are rumored Grand Jury indictments for fraud and perjury in the works for Roger Clemens with Sportstalk guys speculating this is could lead to LA's next legal defense. The fallout from something like this has to impact even the most clueless bystander.

Does anyone have a link to Emile Vrijman's 130+ page report that supposedly convinced the UCI to find the 6 EPO positives in 1999 'not positives'?

Simeoni footage clip needed: Anyone?

"Intimidation of Simeoni (watching this live is what almost removed all doubt for me - the 'zip your lips' gesture was practically an admission of guilt)."

Does anyone have a link to a video of this perhaps on one of the Youtube-like sites? I am involved in a debate with another racer who has thick fanboy glasses on and he doesn't even know about what LA did to Simeoni. A link to this along with my description will totally make pwned him.

I spent a long time looking for this vid on youtube and it appears it isn't there. If anyone has it it would be great if it could be uploaded/linked.

Just bumping this in case someone has a link..

I recall watching the "zip your lips" gesture live on OLN - but I'm sure subsequent replays of the incident have been scrubbed. This clip really shows what LA is all about. I have found that many racers, especially recent fans have no idea about this incident and that Lance was basically saying "anyone who talks about drugs in cycling is the enemy and will not have a career in cycling if I have anything to say about it.

It's really quite f___ed up.

Anyone with an old video perhaps someone with a copy on non-us footage?

Here's the info:
It was in the 2004 TDF stage 18... somewhat early in the stage.

It's not the actual "zip your lips", but this video on ina.fr has the very condescending "pat on the back" around 1:10 (and following interview of Simeoni, saying Armstrong showed that day who he really was... Indeed  It's so crystal clear that it's amazing hardly anybody reacted to it... )

Armstrong does a "zip the lips" in that video. At about 0:13? Is that *the* zip the lips? Or is there another one?

Callac,

Thanks for this link. It shows the incident- which as Simeoni says - really shows Armstrong's class - as a supporter and protector of the drug culture in Pro Cycling - as a matter of fact I like the sound of that thread title...

I think I'll start a new thread about what this incident was about. I hope Wikipedia is correct about all the Simeoni court dates ect with Ferrari...

This zip the lips move seems to be after chatting with Jan... don't recall if this was "the only "zip the lips" move by the boss.

There is another one. He doesn't do it for the camera, he does it for the peloton after he finishes chasing down Simeoni.

Fantastic. This footage must be tracked down! It must exist! I will know no sunlight or moonlight until ... no going a bit far. But it would be nice to have it though.
