What happened to Vande Velde?

What has happened to Christian Vande Velde? Is he simply off form, injured (from a crash or still recovering from an injury) or sick? I ask this because he's nowhere near the top 20 (what I expected from him) and aside from second on yesterday's stage he hasn't done much note worthy. According to Liggett CVV was crying in the peloton during stage 14, what happened to him, I expected much more of him.

Part of the big crash on stage 6. Cost him nearly 14 mins just on that stage, then had to recover afterwards.
