Not impressed. The new format seems to imitate obscure forums you get for groups like car fanatics. Was this decided by an IT geek (technical) or Accountant (costs) rather than consulting the actual Users on what they want ?

Oh well I suppose will get used to it but don't understand why it had to be done this way.
this indeed.
plus Juan.

Thanks a lot for destroying the Race Design Thread. That was the best thread in the entire forum and now it's ruined. Well done.

Oh, and it was absolutely impossible for me to log on under my old user name. The promised email never came. Excellent work.

What was your old username? I can sort it for you.

Hi,

I'm still struggling to get my old account up and running. Ferryman managed to sort me out with a password but, I changed the email address and the activation email hasn't come through. I'm unsure if this is a problem on my end or yours. Can you reactivate the account for me? The user name is King Boonen.

Cheers,

KB.

Okay I found out that I just need to unsubscribe the threads and then bookmark them instead, my bad.

However can this be changed? "Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied."

What an absolutely appalling shower of revoltingness this new look is. Spew.

It has taken till now, with much help from 'Bonny', for me to access the forum. None of the automated mails were sent. None. I even made a new account with a different name and different email address, and never received the activation mail for that either. Bonny had to reset a password at least twice before I was eventually able to log in. What an absolute cluster**** this whole operation has been. What kind of IT dept. can't even ensure that auto mails are actually sent?

Where are the smilies? Is there one that shows spewing? That's what I think of this new look/skin. Absolutely revolting. Bah.

I like the new report feature which tells you if a post has been reported, at least I know other people are trying to help clean up the spam! Also the reply to tell you it has been dealt with, good feature.

People showing their true colours here...

Was that a response to my post?

Yours as well as others.

While I'm not questioning you opinion that really wasn't a vey pleasant way to "talk" to someone (I'm aware you've not addressed an individual). There are always going to be problems (you'll notice I've experienced either very similar or the same problems you have) but it's also clear that many people have not had these problems.

As for the look, again that's your opinion and while I might agree with some of it you could have been a bit more constructive in the way you phrased things. Just dumping a load of criticism on people is not any way to talk to people, particularly when you really have no idea how much work is required to sort it all out.

You're right, I expressed the fact that I was seriously p!ssed off. There have been 'problems' or 'issues' every single time that anything has been 'done' to this forum - also when things have not 'been done'. Those of us who have been here since the beginning have, unfortunately, come to take a very dim view of the IT people looking after this board. I have no idea if the current ones are the same ones who have 'administered' this board since the start.

While I make no claim to any expertise about phbb, I am not totally ignorant on these matters, and I can tell you for a fact that what I and others have gone through since this started last week has been due to human error. There is a reason why automated mails do not get sent. I simply did not receive the mail needed to log back in and change the password, nor did I receive an activation mail when I tried to make a new account with a different email address. I'm sure that everyone concerned did their best to achieve a smooth transition, but I've lost count of the number of occasions that something has gone wrong with this forum. Invariably, when something does go wrong, it affects me, whereas many others remain unaffected. No, I'm not paranoid.

I will read this as "Thank you for helping me" Sam and Bonny.

a little bit of gratitude would be nice

I have thanked Bonny for her help several times in emails, and asked her to also relay my thanks to Susan and Dan.

God knows where I'd be if I didn't happen to 'know' Susan, who gave me Dan's email the last time things went wrong as recently as Feb., I believe. I even sent a reply via the 'Feedback' option on the first page for the password change. From my point of view, nothing that someone without a personal contact to CN could do worked. I checked all spam folders - I received no automated mails of any kind.

Would you be good enough to offer some explanation, Sam?

While I totally accept that it is human nature to generally prefer the known to the new, and while I have seen countless forum changes of bb formats and 'looks' on many forums since 1999, I don't recall ever having been so instantly turned off to previous changes. But, that's just my one, humble opinion, and as we all know, opinions are like small orifices, we all have one. ;)

P.S. I see the word 'smilies' on the new post page, but I can't click it, nor do I see anything else that might lead to a selection of smilies. What am I missing?

P.P.S. There was a 'contact developers' (or similar) button on one of the pages. When I tried to use it to send a message, it opened by default in some bizarre Win8 'mail' program that I have never, and will never, use. I would assume that I am not alone in that. Is it not possible to offer users a choice of where the 'contact s/w team' link opens? For example, my original email address (now changed thanks to Bonny) runs on a POP3 server as used by most European providers, yet %$#@*& Win8 still does not support POP3, so I had to use web mail rather than having mails drop into Outlook or Thunderbird.

I don't have any experience with the inner workings of forums, so I'll take it that what you say is correct as I too experienced the same problems, it was just the way it was put across. I'm sure you wouldn't speak to someone like that face to face.

Well finally able to get back on the forums...as has had been said by others here; the promised email with a new password never came. After trying that several times, I decided to use the feedback option to get in contact. That did work. I'll try to keep myself from complaining. :) Bonny I do thank you for getting back to me. Hope things continue to improve here.

I've removed some of the more gratuitous padding and empty space around / in between posts and threads, so please continue providing feedback on how easy or difficult the layout is to read.

Hi, would you consider removing the second bar from the top to give a little more space for the forum? It's no biggie, but I would appreciate it.

Added a "View new posts" link and "Mark forums read" link to the board index. These links will only appear if you're logged in (as they're dependant on your user account).

You can now also go directly to the latest post in a thread by clicking the icon next to the name of the author in the "Last Post" column.

How about changing the Font and Size? This very tiny font size and the design is making me have to concentrate to read the Forum; the original was easy and relaxing to peruse.

'Verdana' or another font designed almost 'square-like' in size would be easier on the eyes.
