Added a "View new posts" link and "Mark forums read" link to the board index. These links will only appear if you're logged in (as they're dependant on your user account).

You can now also go directly to the latest post in a thread by clicking the icon next to the name of the author in the "Last Post" column.

Thank you! This is one of the best features of any forum imo.

Two things that should both be easy to tweak.

I suggested to Bonny by mail that the missing commas should be re-inserted into the numbers of views and post counts. For example, 1234567 is not as easy to read as 1,234,567.

Secondly, I just found myself logged out after only around an hour of inactivity. I was used to having the forum open all day on a tab. If it is no longer possible to simply remain logged on indefinitely, or till the browser is closed, can the time at least be extended before one is logged out?

I've been trying to find the name of a font or typeface that Apple used in its program called Pagemaker in the early 1990s. The name 'Methuen' keeps coming to mind, but I can't find an example of it anywhere on the web to verify that that's the one.

It's a serif font that is almost 'square' in design. So easy to read.

Perhaps someone who knows where to find a list of the fonts used on the Apple Macintosh can point me to it, I'll remember the name when I see it.

This is a suggestion, of course, but at least I'd like to make it complete. :)

To the bold - awesome and much-appreciated. :)

And I see the smilies are back - thanks for that too.

Glad to see that the font size in quotes is larger. That's much better. I agree with Microchip's point about some fonts being more readable. Good suggestion.

One request of my own-
Can the titles that appear on tabs be changed? They currently appear as "Cyclingnews Forum * View Topic - Thread nameXXXX." It would be more useful if the titles simply listed only the thread name (or put thread name first if you want to say Cyclingnews Forum, etc).

I frequently have multiple tabs open with different threads (particularly during multiple races like this past week), and it is currently impossible to immediately see which tab is for which thread, without hovering over or clicking to bring up the page.

On the font style and name issue -

To me, looking at my own posts, the quote in my signature "it says, AC will win the tour...." is larger and thus more readable than the text of my post, or the quote from Pete that I was replying too. Why is this?

And over in the left-hand column, why is "Private Message" and "Website" bigger than the poster's name? IMO, the poster's name ought to be biggest thing over in that column, as it is the most important.

edited to add -
Ah, I see that the "this post was edited" message is now fixed to not be so large. This is a good thing. Thanks for that.

I've noticed that also, signatures with quotes show the quotes at its original size, far more readable than the post itself. That's the ideal thing itself.

Very helpful. Still looking for a couple things:

1. Sizing of photos. Many left over photos still seem to be cut off, not even sized down, just cut off. The most damage is in the Babes on Bikes thread, which is one of the most popular on the entire forum. Losing this would translate to a hefty traffic loss I would imagine.

2. Being able to multi-quote like the old forum would be very helpful. As is, you have to reply with quote several times, or do a lot of cutting and pasting.

3. In the old forums, in a quote you could click a little button next to the name in the quote, taking you to the original post where the quote came from. Can that be brought back?

Customizing color schemes would be nice. As is, there's an awful lot of white.

Also, I'm no coding expert, so how do I add a link to a post? In the old forum we had a URL button. Now I see things like "code" or "list" or [*] that look like they were written by web developers assuming the 98% of of us know what they are talking about. :)

The little orange boxes that let you go to page 2, page 3, etc - can they be moved up above the Quick Reply box? For me, they seem lost at the bottom of the page, among all the other orange boxes. See photo below

Or alternately just make them a different color if you don't want to move the Quick Reply box down.

Yep. I think your suggestion about just choosing a different font will make a lot of difference, and is maybe the way to go more so even than changing size. I notice anything written in bold, even if the size doesn't change, immediately is way more readable. This is just a weak font. Pretty, but not readable. Look how commas almost disappear into the letters sometimes -> pretty, but

Can external links open in a new tab/window instead of taking you away from the forum? Yes, I know I can right click, etc, but is this doable?

Posts are dated "16 Mar 2015 timestamp"
Earlier they were saying "Today" "Yesterday" "16 minutes ago"

I find the today/minutes ago method of dating posts easier than the standard "16 March etc" method. I was used to the "today" method, and bypassed a bunch of posts thinking they were old before realizing they were from today and thus were new.

edit-
Well this is weird. The "5 minutes ago" style of dating posts shows up if you're logged out. If you're logged in, you get the boring "16 Mar 2015 timestamp" method of dating posts. It would be good to unify with one dating method, since some of us read while logged out+in.

One more thing.

Interesting articles on dyslexics reading on computers, are out there on the web. It seems that Verdana is among the popularly-used fonts on the web that makes reading comfortable for dyslexics. There's one called Dyslexie and OpenDyslexic which, depending on the degree of dyslexia, seems to make the reading even easier - meaning, they make less errors than with other fonts. I found those fonts looks like the one used here on the forum (it might be called 'Myriad') which I find very difficult to read.

So, a common ground between us all seems to be a good choice. :))

Actually, there is, if you meant this. You just need to "Reply with quote" to desired posts on two different tabs, and then copy-paste the respective quote from the second tab to your reply in the first tab...

I was simply saying - after helping a user out and giving access was given - they return to the forum and *** and moan about the "IT department" - that's the same IT department who just helped them out for 30 mins to understand how they managed to block their own account.

a little graditute would be nice as that helps us know that our help is appreciated and if it is appreciated, we will continue to help out.

Yes a few problems have been identified, and we Developers are in here Helping out making changes as they get pointed out and fixing and improving daily.

Oh no, sorry but I'm not having the bold above. If I blocked my account, it was entirely because I repeatedly followed the instructions shown to me, because I did not receive any (automated) mail from CN whatsoever.

Curiously - I passed the details on to Bonny by mail - I also did not receive an activation mail for a new account with a different name and email address. Curious, no? Don't tell me it was my own fault.

Again, I have expressed my thanks to Bonny via mail on at least three occasions today.

Also can be done by clicking on the top right hand corner of the desired message in the topic review below the edit box.
