I got an email back from Redwing on the topic of where their boots are made. They provided the following link to the list of the 62 models they have that are still made in the usa (some with usa materials, some with imported materials):

http://www.redwingsafety.com/safety-boots/filter-made-in-usa/page-1/maxnum-0

and thats the crunch.. what is "imported material".. could be that they arrive, soles, uppers etc all made up, they just chuck them together so that they can call them american made

I tried to buy an all US made outfit from shirt to shoes ,it was impossible. American made cars can carry up to 32% non US made parts and still be called American. I recently bought a Wolfmother cd that was made in Australia. It is outstanding. The best thing you or anybody else can buy for the holidays.. Jon,Mark and Robbo's. It is some of the best scotch whiskey you can drink with a price that will make you feel festive.

It's actually quite easy. Of course you can buy a suit, shirt, tie, etc. all USA made, but even in casual wear this is quite easy to do.

American Apparel shirt, or something from the hundreds of small makers

Choose from any number of dozens of high quality denim jean shops or cycling jean/pant companies (like swrve, for example)

Socks are easy: either cycling socks, many merino wool brands, and even the cheap Champion cotton socks at costco are made in usa

Shoes are most difficult but there are plenty of boot manufacturers and boutique casual shoe makers and of course New Balance has some made in usa running shoes still.

Skate ski equipment!

Maybe the Olympics have inspired me, maybe it's just the end of season sales. But I have at least a month of skiing left to play with this new purchase before I have to put it away.

In addition to stephens's suggestions, check out Bonobos for quality khakis, cotton twill, and wool pants that are all made in New York. They also fit a cyclist-type build extremely well, and have 34" inseams up to size 30 waist and 36" inseam for everything above that, so tall guys like me are taken care of.

I haven't found a decent US shirt manufacturer for tall skinny guys (I'm a 15 neck, 36 sleeve), but am open to suggestions from anyone else.

I might not be dispelling any stereotypes about 21 year old boys, but i finally got Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for the PS3....[/nerd]

I'm getting FFXIII in two weeks on the day it comes out! And later this year: Super Street Fighter IV, Dead Rising II (it's coming to PS3), and maybe Heavy Rain. Loves me some PS3.

And things I've gotten for myself recently: A bottle of the Lagavulin 16 year and...well, who cares what else. :D

(Sorry for the double post.)

A 1/4 share in a pacer [harness racing horse]. It's a 1 year old colt. Will [hopefully] be racing this time next year. Win lots of races and then stand it at stud.
I wont say how much a 1/4 share was but needless to say I could have brought a very nice De Rosa or suchlike.

It has excellent breeding and with a little luck I'll be able to get a new bike every year from it's winnings!!!:D

I love horses, but I couldnt eat a whole one .....

So instead I just bought a Farmers Union Iced coffee and a Chico roll.

Oh and a Vittoria Rubino Pro from PBK.

I'm jealous...I want very much to learn the technique but as I just got a new classic setup over Christmas, it's a no-go this year :(, which is doubly painful because we got dumped on again last week and have easily a 1,5-2 meters of snow in the hills and it aing goin' nowhere :D good for more skiing...bad for early season base miles...

Next purchase for me is possibly converting my single speed to 1x9...thinking 2009 SRAM x9 as it's on sale right now.

ohh, you should have no problem - didn’t you mention you are an experienced ice skater ? ski skating techniques, particularly the V2, are amazingly similar to speed skating...several lessons, watching youtube clips, and you’ll be on your way to the next olympics ;)

it’s actually funny you should mention getting into ski skating because the opposite was true for me this year. im a passionate ’practitioner’ of xc skiing all year round. but this year i decided to learn ice skating. so I bought myself a pair of nordic skates as it made most sense to stick with the numerous skiing boots I already have. i fell in love with ice skating and if it wasn’t for xc skiing id be lake skating all winter.

so that was my first toy this winter - nordic skates. the other one was garmin 305. a great substitute for a bike computer in the winter. i did some looking around and came to the conclusion that 305 at half the price of 310 and almost the same specs and performance was the toy I could not pass. i love my winter toys !!

Nah, you may have me mixed up with someone else. I can skate a bit, I have a pair of Bauers, but in the general sense of the word, I am no skater...

Further compounding the issue is that I came late to XC skiing in general (only after I moved to Norway), so I'm a bit behind the ball overall, but have been fully bitten by the bug and I refuse to buy into the "can't teach an old dog - new tricks" mantra...

Thanks for the tips though...cheers :D
