Nah, a 260km medium mountain stage is always a win... unless all the climbs are in the first 100km.

I don't have the profile for that stage in the Giro 2010, sorry. But it has to be raced on a rainy day, otherwise is not the same.

I would love for Cancellara to do this stage just once.

as you can see, people don't remember any profile only if the stage was raced like hell.the profile for montalcino by the way was shiity, nothing special but how the race developped?
I see indeed :D
btw I don't think Montalcino profile was that bad... The rain made it epic but it would have been good anyway.

As for the Fedaia reasoning, I'll add another epic stage...

This is using Fedaia properly. And this kind of stages gave Fedaia its fame.

edit: the stage is Montebelluna - Passo Pordoi 2001

My legs are sore looking at that. I would love it if they did it for the 2013 Giro just so Hitch can rule the forum with his preview for the stage.

Hitch has enough stages to rule this forum even without that one :D
I'm sure he's already writing the 34th post of his Mortirolo/Stelvio preview ;)

looks great. and for the purpose of your thread, you're probably right.
i certainly want to see the racing start before the last climb, too,
but i'm always impressed by beauty, so i wanted the greatest possible beauty last :)
and before you call me a wimp or whatever, i'd like to see if the users Zoncolan, Angliru, Mortirolo.. put 'their' mountain on penultimate place ;)

Apart from once, when they finished in Edolo, Mortirolo has ALWAYS been at best penultimate, sometimes several climbs out. Anglirú is a dead end, so has to be an MTF.

Here's another great one

This one looked promising - and it certainly did turn out that way. A short stage with three difficult climbs crammed into 80 kilometers, with a sharp descent tagged on to the end. I don't know if it's my favourite profile ever, if there's such a thing, but it sure is intriguing.

It's the last stage, stage 9, of Tour de Suisse 2005, btw. And it changed the GC when Aitor Gonzalez went crazy and robbed Michael Rogers of the win.

Tschopp didn't really beat Evans as Evans attacked way too late on the Tonale to really have a chance of catching Tschopp. Tschopp went on the Gavia and out sprinted Simoni to get the Cima Coppi and made fast descent down to the Tonale where he was able to hang on and win.

It was a great stage, I hoped Simoni wouldve made the top of the Gavia first though as I am a great Gibo fan. But Tschopp stole nothing and rode to his well deserved win. It was a shame GC was decided already though, it would have been so cool to see Liquigas go all out on the Gavia.

Well they use the same roads in the Montepaschi Strade Bianchi classic they do in March, which he won in 08.

Really, I thought it was a disapointing stage.

After 1 of the greatest gt stages ever some of us were perhaps irrationaly hoping for Arroyo to attack Basso on the Gavia descent, or for Cadel or Scarponi to maybe try something but as it happened the gt guys just rode most of the stage together.

Moreover I remember some, including Melo Velo predicting that this would be the stage Liqui would save for and Mortirolo would be tame, so the stage was disapointing especially compared to the rest of the Giro.

Ok that is the best profile I have ever seen. Beats even any Giro profile I have ever seen. Was it ever done or considered?

But there is 1 way to make it even better. Swap pathetic Sestrieres for that mountain next door.

Evans only attacked at the very end, and it was to keep the points jersey safe from Vino rather than for the stage as I recall.

Tchopp though at 1 point looked likely to take the stage easy but they closed in on him rapidly and it took some real balls to hold on. Everyone else was caught from that break.

Ok, just tell me where and when. We'll do it.
Are there any McDrives along the road ?

Don't forget to bring your lights with you + coca leaves, and razors.

Never really looked at it, just saw a bunch of TDF climbs back to back.

Now that I look at it 280km, the hardest mtf Ive ever seen, L'Alpe as a preclimb, 5 hc climbs + 2 cat 1's, I feel a bit stupid for what I posted:p

So if my math is good, it's 27 km at 9.1. Still, I don't know if it;s paved. Imagine how much Ullrich would had lost if they didn't stop at Le Deux Alpes. Half an hour?
