there was a hilarious occurrence last year where one of those retards was running along side a rider at touching distance until another spectator tripped him, anyone remember where that was?

Shows there are some good fans out there.

Belgian commentators talked about throwing them into the ravine, im totally ok with this.

Not a bad idea, but they'd get in the way of riders down the road

Unless the guy who falls gets in contact with Tejay;)

True, but not that likely as long as the fan was running behind him, definitely the chance of that if he was running in front.

All part of the MTF fun. Just wish we could go back to no helmets and Oakley's perched on head. Good old days.

People are stupid and they don't realize the consequences of their actions. Wheter they are unable to, don't want to or don't care at all. Nothing can be done about that. I've resigned to mind it at all but I'm cheered when ocassionally some rider punches them in the face or throws off their sunglasses.

Why did the Giro organisers have all of the police on the top of the mountain today ? In the TT they seemed to be spread out more. Another black mark against the officials who really need to get their act together and tossing a guy out of the race for breaking his chain twice in the TT where he did not have any support vehicle and exceeded the time cut is just pathetic.

True, i'm totally agree with you. The first and most important thing is the correction capacity of people mutually

Great ideas here, ban the fans. Ban the TV coverage of said fans (and the race that happens to be going on too), fine the fans .....

All wonderful ideas to destroy the sport. Kudos.

Just finished watching it and the idiot would've pushed Bongiorno into Rogers rear wheel if not for Bongiorno getting out of the saddle and leaning forward to lessen the force of the idiot's push. Nothing short of running races like they do at Tour of Beijing can be done to prevent it. Possibly an increased presence of police throughout the climbs as mentioned could act as a visual deterrent. In addition have the race vehicle go along the climb(s) announcing that fans are not to touch or run along side the riders and if they do they will be detained and fined.

agree with not showing on telly. the idiot rai cameraman filmed that guy-bride like a pervert instead of filming the riders lol. but yeah anything else than this, you pretty much can't do. just more volunteers(big guys preferably) to keep the wild ones under the control.

Yeah, fining the fans who push or touch a rider would destroy the sport, as would telling the cameramen to do their best to avoid showing the weirdos, unlike right now, when the producer will purposefully seek them out.

You're paying less attention to this thread than an idiot fan to the race he's trying to take a picture of.

The potential trouble makers are usually easy to spot (weird costumes for weird people etc) Place a policeman, soldier, race usher near them. Preferably a big strong dude with heavy scarring, jailhouse tats and a thousand yard stare.

In the video of a young contador (forget which year) winning on the Angliru there is a great moment where and idiot runs alongside and in the way for a long time, until a meaty Spanish cop dressed like an army guy comes bombing down the hill and clotheslines him hard off the road.

More of that please.

This is something that I am actually passionate about because one of the factors that makes this sport so enjoyable is the proximity of the public to the racers. As an Englishman I am concerned that when the Tour comes here, the authorities will not be able to resist erected thousands of barricades in the interest of health and safety.

This I feel would be to the detriment of the sport.

However, having fans interfering with the sport, endangering the riders and running around like idiots is good for nobody. At the busier mountain areas there should be a few marshalls who can basically step in and get rid of the idiots.

Thing with self-regulation is that most of the fans are there to look at the race, support their favorites, whatever. I can't blame them for not wanting to get involved in a fight on the exact moment the race passes. I think having more policemen is the most realistic option.

I would hate to see the police all over any race.
