Dive bombing the steep hills of San Francisco, and racing between lanes of moving traffic, trying to catch every green light to the other side of town. Incredibly stupid. Incredibly fun.

I crashed into a traffic light pole at 50kmph racing a night time crit (which was won by Garmin rider Jack Brobridge). Fracturing some ribs and tearing my rotator cuff.

That was on a Friday night. Over that weekend I participated in a 24 hour race where me and my team did over 1000kms in this pedal powered monstrosity.

It was pointless, and stupid on nearly all levels.

Ha, that thing looks awesome. But it is a recumbent....

I know Jack Bobridge has talked about moving to the Gold Coast to live when he's not overseas, guess I will soon have experiences with him soon enough, providing he does make the move.

1) Riding fixed gear across SF (over massive hills) to a bar. Drinking too much. Riding back home.

2) Going for a training ride in an ice storm because it was on my 'training plan'. Made my eyes bleed.

looks aero, and isnt that the most important thing?

Pretty much. Also because these races go for 24 hours flat out with 250 vehicles on a 2 km track the fairing serves to protect the vehicle and rider.

Well... other than the occasional "Hmm... kinda bad weather, I better take warm clothes on..." things during the winter I think I'm fairy relaxed...
If it's a choice between riding through a bit a snow and taking a bus... I prefer the bike...:)

Endure being hit by a car. It happened this morning during a very high speed sprint in a farly large group. It happened on a small country road, which has double yellow lines for no passing. A car passed us and their side mirror hit my elbow. Thankfully, the mirror folded upon impact, but what a wallop! I still can't believe I managed to stay up!

The car passed illegally, and did not stop. As the car passed and after impact I noticed it was driving on the side closest to the group. This was intentional, I have no doubt. Funny thing is, it's my shoulder that hurts the most, and the elbow to a lesser extent.

I went on and had a fantastic ride for the next few hours. Today was a birthday ride. It was so fine out today. I will never stop doing this.

After doing lots of long cycling endeavors I thought I knew something about multi-hour endurance exercise, so I entered a hundred mile trail running race. It turned out I did not know as much as I thought I did.

Refusing to let a day go by without a ride and getting caught out in storms. One year passed within just a couple miles of a tornado that leveled half of an entire neighborhood. Had to stop at a bar to wait the storm out and calm down with a whiskey and a beer.

I named my son after a famous one day classic.
I'm going to guess Sebastian. Amstel and Liege are possible as well. Roubaix would be a cool name, but I don't think that's it. I don't see Flanders (or Ronde) Tours, Milano or San Remo, Fleche or Wallone, or Zurich or...

My "extreme" cycling:

Rode my old Peugeot PX10 over a hard dirt and rock forest road for five miles with a pack on my back. I figured if pros rode them in the Arenberg, I'd be fine, and it held up like a champ.

*Riding 1hr to a 24hr race, winning it and riding another 1 hr home.

*Coming 2nd in a 24hr xc race and then running the 2004 Adelaide marathon 9 hours later in 3:42

*Riding Adelaide to Perth into direction of head winds for 2 weeks. Sometimes gale force.

*Riding Tullamarine Airport to Mt Lofty in 48:30 (750km) cos I didnt have enough money for a bus ride. (only had about 20$, but thats a lot of sultanas!)

*Riding Gold Coast to Cairns in 10 days with a budget of 70$.

*Riding 515km solo on new years day just on fruit and some weeds from the side of the highway. (Rundle st-pinaroo-rundle st).

*Riding 30 020km in a year just so I could say I did it.

*Finished 8 24hr solo xc races.

*Riding Byron bay to Adelaide(2300KM) in the middle of december(temps up to 42c) cos I thought it 'would be fun'. I rode my dual suspension xc bike with mud tyres and flat bars and wearing a pair of cut off jeans. It wasnt fun.

*Riding Seattle to Los angeles with no big ring and a buckled rear mavic helium.

*Riding Paris Brest Paris (2003 edition).1243km in 51:30 with no support team and on just fruit and water. Best hallucinations Ive ever seen.

*Riding thru the Alps and Pyrenee's with only a 39x21 as my easiest gear and carrying all my camping gear.

*Running the Brisbane marathon yesterday with only 28km ran in the last 28 days.

I did a 400 k ride with 36000 feet of climbing. It took us 19 riding hours and about 21 total. I didn’t feel right for a long time afterwards.

I guess for me it would be riding up & down Pikes Peak via the Barr Trail. Not extreme by some people's definition, but it was tough for me...
I was on a hardtail with V-brakes and and 80 MM travel front fork. The downhill was just as painful as the climb.

I've done other "extreme" things un-related to cycling.

The definition of extreme became watered down in the '90's due to marketing in the media (Mountain Dew commercials, etc.) IMO, so maybe too many things count?

Others: 64 MPH on a snowboard
Class 4 rapids in a canoe
survived being hit by a drunk driver (car accident) causing my vehicle to roll twice in a steep canyon (almost rolling down the slope into the river)
hiking in and out of the Grand Canyon in one day (116 degrees at the bottom)

Surviving a front flat down Independence Pass into Keystone

Independence Pass is near Aspen, Loveland Pass goes (eventually) to Keystone.

Having a flat on the front tire at that speed is pretty scary either way, though. This could have ended badly

You're right it was Loveland. It was right by A-Basin

You know, I've never actualy ridden Loveland Pass.
I used to spend every spring weekend at A-basin (at the ski area) back in 1988-1989, but never rode a bike there.

Independence Pass I have done, though. The West side is tougher than the east. I would hate to get a flat front tire on either pass...
