Wheel Question

I'm not a cross racer, so I am wondering if CX racers would be interested in quality, hand-built, carbon-rimmed wheels, clincher or tubular, with either rim or disc braking. What sort of rim depth would be popular, and what # of spokes. I see the 20F and 24R being common on the road, but wonder if that is sufficient for a cross bike. Any input would be welcome.
