A good day by Menchov, nothing more would be expected for him and now it will be about hoping Froome is worked to the ground by Wiggins and trying to beat Nibali in the last TT which he should do and then sticking with him on the climbs and the Sky train on the descent. Menchov will surely be realistic and he is experienced and will surely realise when and where he needs to expend energy to have a shot at the podium.

Why would Menchov want another podium? He al ready has two podiums

He should try allying with Evans and Nibali and JvdB in the offensive, even though it will probably fail.

Menchov is doing an average race like you can expect from a rider that in the past two years has been an average rider... a top5 for him will be great... and he's really far from winning this race like a lot of guys were saying before the tour...

the palmares doesn't help you during the climbs or during the ITT...

Because 3 is better than 2.... and because he is not a great attacker and wont want to ally with his fellow contenders for a podium

top 5 in the tour de france isn't average up to this stage. I will say that it is still anybody's race. Wiggins will most likely crack in the mountains.

Wiggins has yet to be tested. So far the tour has favored Wiggins with already two time trials out of the way.

I say Wiggins gets cracked on the more grueling mountain stages. Both Cadel and Menchov will gain time on him.

I would say he's doing much better than those that proclaimed that he was past his due date. He's performed well in the tt's and in the one mtf.

Yes a good surprise for me as well, unlike say...Kloden.

Well with Frank Schleck denouncing his leadership prior to the Tour's start all the responsibility for that role fell on Kloden's shoulders and history shows that whenever that has happened he has not risen to the occasion.

Edit: This is when Kloden's given the leadership role at the Tour.
