Disgusting. Can't say I was ever a fan of Whitney Houston's, but she was an amazingly gifted singer; absolute shame the bad turn that her life took. RIP.

On this subject of Whitney being Black and black music I think she fills the gap between when American black music was the greatest music of all and some of the greatest of all time - the blues, jazz, soul etc of the 40's 50's 60's 70's, and the absolute tripe crap **** which it has become today.

Whitney leans more to those times because what she did can actually be called music.

And she was of course very talented unlike 90% of the so called "artists" today.

+1000

As the other folks have already stated, The tragedy here is about the waste of such talent/skills/gift she possessed by her reckless behavior, drug abuse & poor choices throughout her career..... the passing is merely the consequence of those things

Yes, I would agree. Despite shows like the Voice, or even what we see/hear at the finals of American Idol, the general level of singing talent is nothing compared to years ago when you actually had to sing, period. Today's music is filled with rapping, overcompressed and computer manipulated singing. We rarely hear true vocal harmonies today. I listened to Earth Wind and Fire the other day, and lament how the f*** we went from that, to rap.

Granted some people today can still sing quite well, but that's not the mainstream, that's not the mold Whitney was cut from. Take a look at her lineage to understand what I mean.

Sad for sure. Still, she had to be one of the most annoying singers ever. Reminds me of some very hard to tolerate neighbours I had back when the soundtrack to The Bodyguard was unleashed on the public. Her contribution to the album was played over and over all day long by them, which nearly drove me over the edge.

one of the most annoying singers ever ...........nearly drove me over the edge
So, I wasn't the only one to think that.

Agree. Actually, good music stopped at 1985. That year some obscure "Metal" band called "Europe" had a No. 1 hit with "Final Countdown". That was it, from there it went downhill. Only those who were there before (1985) performed good music afer 1985, like Freddie Mercury (a real tragedy, unlike Whitney Houston), James Hetfield, Pat Benatar, Bruce Dickinson, Kenny Rogers, Rob Halford, Shane MacGowan, Billy Idol, etc..

Even BoneyM and ABBA pop music are great compared to that trash of nowadays.

Can´t stand that crybaby singing of today like from Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Beyonce and of course Whitney Houston, etc.. A pain in the ears.

And (new) rap? Oh man, don´t let me start. That should not even count as music. Complete BS.
At least in the early 80s there were some good performers like Grandmaster, Kool Moe Dee, IceT, etc..

And i am not living in the yesteryears, since i am not even 40.

Of course not.... After all: So what, another heavy drug addict like Amy Winehouse is dead. There are worse tragedys every day around the world no one cares about. What a hypocrisy to mourn over low lifers like those people at the grammys did.

we should all have better than this, Whitney, Marco P, VDB. We shouldn't have to dese4rveI it.

from a Lucinda Williams song

"Did an angel whisper in your ear
Hold you close, wipe away your tear
In that long, last moment."

Wtf ? Godmother? So you were close friends with Aretha Franklin ?

How did you come to that conclusion? :p

"My (Susan) 18-year-old son was amazed to learn that Aretha Franklin was her (Whitney) godmother."
