it's tougher to ride for the win everytime. besides he is paid the big bucks to deliver in GT's.
I'm not overlooking the mental aspect. it's an area Remco needs to grow in.
But physically speaking it ain't the same. it's just not.

It's a lot harder to be ready for a mix of one day races and GC, then only for GC. It's probably why Vingegaard has struggled. And you only need to listen to the riders themselves. Hopefully a next few days of getting relatively calm to the finish before the next big assignment, ... . you constantly hear comments like that throughout Gt's. It's cause those days are physically less demanding.

Guys like MVDP, WVA target some GC days, but also use GC like Tirreno to actively get in better shape for their spring goals. If just staying in the bunch was as physically hard as riding for a win every day they would not be able to do that.

Overdrivelse fremmer forståelsen, but probably nothing. But it seems that after every road stage something is wrong according or Mr. Hansen.
to be clear , i also think his comments in that regard is on net unhelpful , and that he was flat out wrong , entitled , and a force for destruction yesterday

Congrats for the overall victory.

His performance today confirmed my numbers from his long solo. He is in decent shape, but far from great. You could also see that it makes a big difference to be on the wheel, as Martinez could follow relatively easily. Presumably, Vingegaard was also not on a good day.

Today he only did around 7.1* w/kg for 9 minutes, which is not good, especially considering the short stage.

*After review, I have it as 7.17 w/kg for 8:54. I am not 100% sure about the wind, so I assumed 0. It would not have a very big effect on this type of climb anyway.

Glad to see the boy smile.

Question to Jonas fans since I dont know and just curious, have Jonas gone to altitude ahead of PN/TA in prior years or was this something new?

- Couldn't drop a French kid named Lenny of all names
- Only 7.1 W/kg for 9 minutes

+ Bigger winning margin in a non GT stage race than Pogacar ever managed

Please be so kind as to overreact to a manner of your choosing. No balanced takes allowed.

Vingo is in the form of his life (thus margins are great) while Lenny had performance of his life (and will be 2nd in the Tour behind the Danish). Watts are a bit subdued cause there's a new diet in the peleton (bread and water).

"It was about attacking on the last climb and seeing who could keep up and then working with them. I had the plan to take the green jersey from the morning. In that respect, it was perfect. For me it was also about getting home safely"

Understandable or a classic bit of Rem-cope, who knows. We will see in 2 weeks. He does look better at this point this year, however not at Basque 2023 level where he was mutant.

That plus is highly influenced by what happened in a chaotic stage where Jonas has very little merit. It's not like he was murdering the field every single stage to get that gap.
I don't look to numbers tbh, for me it's more worrying to see how he was unable to drop Lenny today. This is something Pogacar would do quite easily.

I think we'll understand which take is more accurate in less that 2 weeks.

Realistically, I think there was a slight headwind on the climb, and Vingegaard may have decided he didn't want to go solo against an 8 man chasing group. But IMO it was quite clear he wasn't feeling that great when he didn't get out of the saddle after Campenaerts pulled off.

The biggest winning margin stage was not the Uchon stage, but the next one where Jonas gapped nr 2 with more than 2 minutes. I think it is safe to say that this was in large part his own performance that made the difference.

Interestingly, the estimated power numbers from this year's Paris Nice is on par with his performances in Gran Camino 2023 and 2024. But then, he improved a bit in 2024 Tirreno, so I'd expect similar for Catalunya.

I was also thinking in his main rival, Ayuso who crashed out. With Ayuso, he probably doesn't win with such advantage IMO.

Ayuso and Almeida.
With both in the race, the margin would be much closer, if any at all.
The TTT could have played a bigger role in the race too.

Visma and Vingegaard are utilizing what they have effectively. It has worked out that they got parallel development at Tirreno, showing good strategy and capabilities, all good signs for Giro and maybe something good at TDF. Victor Campenaerts riding effectively, If Kuss has something to contribute, things can hopefully continue to improve. Visma really spreading it around with Brennan, Jorgenson, Rex, Laporte, Van Aert, all contributing... There are many teams who are improving at the same time massive crash damage from the beginning of the year for UAE ..many riders sidelined with injuries. Vingegaard's tactics, fitness and overall positioning so far has been excellent.

Jonas must change his Giro doms for the Tour, maybe one or two can do both GT.

I hope so, maybe Visma will get real about Wout's form and have him contribute more , yes he could win a stage but he is better serving in a Politt role of blocking wind at speed. Fans don't want to see Wout as a highly paid dom but that's a good job for him in my opinion..
