Teams & Riders Who are The Top 10 Climbers of All Time

Page 7 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
The list:

1: Jonas Vingegaard
2: Tadej Pogačar
3: Fausto Coppi
4: Marco Pantani
5: Lance Armstrong
6: Chris Froome
7: Federico Bahamontes
8: Alberto Contador
9: Charly Gaul
10: Luis Ocaña

You're welcome.
The laugh reaction is for your final comment, not your list.

I think this will attract some debate for recency bias but well done for submitting a solid list of recent and past greats.

After '69 Merckx won:
- 4 LBL
- 2 Lombardy
- 4 giro's
- 4 Tdf's
- 1 Vuelta

and that is AFTER '69.
He should be on that list if you ask me. :)
But the thread is to nominate the top 10 climbers of all time, not the top 10 best riders of all time? Merckx was obviously a great climber but he was also a superb time trialist and sprinter which was why he could win so many races. I think there have been at least 10 better climbers than Merckx. Can you remind why 1969 is significant as that is before my time ;)

In 69 Merckx had a severe crash that left him in pain and having to adjust his position on the saddle constantly because of it. He said he was never the same afterwards. Which is pretty insane given how much he won after that still.

Here is my attempt at a top 10:

1. Marco Pantani
2. Fausto Coppi
3. Alberto Contador
4. Jonas Vingegaard
5. Tadej Pogačar
6. Lance Armstrong
7. Chris Froome
8. Miguel Indurain
9. Jan Ullrich
10. Greg Lemond
After stage 15, I might have to reassess by the end of this Tour. I’ll wait until Pog does stage 19. But as of today people are now suggesting both Pog and Vingo could rock Pantani’s AdH record for f they went full gas from the bottom. That is kind of mind blowing to me.

If they use AdH next year, what should be the most unattainable record in sport might get destroyed :(
