Definately Kloden. In 2006, he would have most likely won the Tour if Landis didn't compete. In 2007, he probably could have won if Astana wasn't kicked out.

more interesting is that both evans and klodi never won a stage at the tour de france(vino was on the podium in albi and klodi's victory was in TTT).i agree:they both deserve one grand tour win, hope it's not too late.

other names coming in my mind:fernando escartin,joseba beloki,richard virenque,el chava,robert millar,piotr ugrumov,claudio chiappucci,levi leipheimer.of course i may be subjective.

Andy's bad luck was that they developed the test for EPO CERA a little too late, otherwise he'd have won the Giro. Unless he was using it too

What is deserve? Do riders that are just not good enough or unlucky deserve a GT more than others? Does Evans deserve a GT more than Petacchi? Or than me for that matter?

I don't see any reason (other than doping possibly, but that is not the point) why Evans (or anyone) deserve a GT because he ended up on the podium a couple of times. If he deserved a GT, he should have bloody won it.

He indeed still got the level to win a GT and I really really hope he does next year, preferably le Tour. It wil make his palmares worth so much more.

Robert Millar

I agree 100%. That Vuelta was his for the taking, yet somehow it just went out the window. I'll have to find the copy of Cycle Sport I have when Millar was guest editor (it was back in 1996 I believe) and it has a whole write up from Millar about it. Great stuff.

How about riders who have the quality and determination to win a GT, have been close a couple of times, but never actually won one? Evans fits the mold. I'd say he deserves to win a GT before he retires. He's probably the best currently active GT rider without a GT win (except for A. Schleck maybe, but he has a few years to go).
