Even Millar says he doesn't think it was the riders, more the organisers, people with the time boards and so on giving incorrect times until the gap was huge.

Libertine Seguros I like you and your posts....but please stop defending everything Spanish soley because it's Spanish. It was a set-up 'de pe a pa'

Alex Zulle?

Zulle won the Vuelta in 96/97 I think he would have won more if only he could see where he was going.According to wikepedia his nickname 'Perro Loco Rompetechos'
My vote goes to Jeff Bernard.

Cadel Evans is one such rider who springs to mind.

in the famous words of Darryl Kerrigan... "you're dreamin'"

although I'd have liked to see him win one.

Same goes for Phil Anderson - dunno about deserved, but I'd have loved to see him have won the Tour

more interesting is that both evans and klodi never won a stage at the tour de france(vino was on the podium in albi and klodi's victory was in TTT).i agree:they both deserve one grand tour win, hope it's not too late.

other names coming in my mind:fernando escartin,joseba beloki,richard virenque,el chava,robert millar,piotr ugrumov,claudio chiappucci,levi leipheimer.of course i may be subjective.

Evans has won a TT stage.

EDIT: someone beat me to it.

Is this sarcasm? Not sure what you meant?

Lol it just sounded funny when you said "he will never win a GT. He should target the Giro instead" :)

Maybe you meant to say Tour de France instead of GT?

If he only focuses on the Tour, and Contador will be there every time, he'll have a hard time ever winning a GT. It made perfect sense to me, actually.

Basically what he said was:

He will never win a GT, therefore he should focus on a GT.

I don't think Cadel Evans "deserved" to win a GT because he had a golden opportunity in that TdF and choked big-time on the final TT. a born second placer if ever there was one.

I don't think it's going to happen with Evans. Certainly he will have his best chance with Contador maybe out(as will everyone else in the field), but it's still a stretch. I've been watching the last few years of the tour and he consistently gets dropped on the high climbs. There's no reason he shouldn't have won either the 2007 or 2008 tour other than he didn't have it in him.

I also wouldn't choose Levi. He just doesn't scream GT winner to me, atleast not in the TDF. I can't see it happening ever.

Had Michael Rasmussen not gotten kicked out, the TDF 2007 was his. There was alot of shenanigans going on there from everyone including Michael, but he didn't help himself. I just love how everything seemed to come out while he was in yellow. Makes me wonder what would have happened if he wasn't in yellow. He hurt himself by focusing on the Tour only.

Which one 2007 against Contador or 2008 against Sastre?

So close so many times, and then theres misfortune at the Vuelta, and not having a team at the Giro (+ having all those evil Italians working together:mad:)

But he aint seen nothing yet.

In 2011 Evans will have 30 seconds to make up on Andy Schleck in the final tt. As Andy Schleck crosses the line 45 seconds down, Cadel and his team celebrate FINALLY winning the big one. There are huge celebrations in Australia, which at one point threaten to spill out of ACFs bedroom.

Then Cadel is informed that the 3rd place Samuel Sanchez, gained 2 minutes on both of them

:p
