If he races a GT which he'll never win while he has way more chance to win in another GT it makes me doubt his will to win ;) He orgasm while thinking of a podium

He rode the Vuelta last 2 years. He wanted to be good this year in the Vuelta, but he wasn't. Not everyone can do 2 good GTs in a row.

They're not paying him to ride the Giro or Vuelta, he's on a Belgian team.

He did not really go to the Vuelta with a target, more just to prepare for the world champs.
In fact he was not targeting GC whatsoever.

He didn't ride the WC nor was it a goal for him to get selected. He wanted to test if he could handle 2 GTs in one season. He can't.

Before the giro he was talking about vuelta gc being his main aim

I can not know what he was thinking, but I believe the proof that he was capable of accomplishing a podium in a GT meant he decided one and for all he would specialise and become a GT rider.

He did ride the WC (TTT and ITT)
As the man said himself:
I noted that during this year's Vuelta. I started there without any pressure, which is how I like it. I was there to prepare for the World Championships, a top GC ranking wasn't my goal

About VDB (i think), he also can't handle 2 GT's in a row.

So what now? Aiming to be 4th in the tour again?

Don't tell me he believes that he can podium it

Well we really don't know if that is the case for the up and coming riders, have not seen enough of them.
Can't see 5 times GT winner amongst up and coming riders.
5 GTs should be good measure of desire 'cause they all (including Contador) have more than 3 years left on a high level, and Contador has already shown he has 5 Bigs in his legs = desire.

Considering GT's cycling has pretty much dynasties you can say. Merckx, hinault, indurain, (go the clinic) and now Contador.

absolute agree with this, only few rider have the ability to dominate over years

after Contador i predict an interregnum,
riders in the top 10 behind Contador will gets some GT wins, like Sastre, Riis, Zootmelk
can't see the new king yet, who will dominate over the years

Dombrowski, Quintana, Pinot I could see becoming a great force in the GT's. Ospina (if what Ryo says about him is true). I would love to see Tejay become a force in GT's.

Of course much of this discussion is speculation, riders that dominate like Merckx or Hinault or Contador are rare.

I hope Nairo Quintana .

Tejay Van garderen and Pinot anre good options too, and I would like to seeing Tylor Phiney make a similar improvement to Wiggins , but it is very difficult at the moment to see him in top 10 positions in grand Tours

I believe Lotto's Marc Sergeant said something along the lines of 'He's going to have to get more results.' so I hope they will force him to ride the Giro or something.

Not only rare but also quite difficult to predict. Nine out of ten times it isn't the guy you who shows tremendous talent (and good, consistent results) at young age who you expect to steadily grow into one of the big ones, but its the guy that suddenly blows everyone's head of.

No, we need to see if Froome can take on Contador. Not the other way around.

Exactly. Froome is the wannabe. Contador is the one who's crown (reigning king of grand tours) that Froome aspires to. Froome hasn't even won a grand tour yet so how can one state that Contador has to prove he can handle Froome?

Teejay reminds me of Levi's riding. Strong rider on long burning gradual slopes but lacks the acceleration needed for the steeper stuff where he's going to get dropped. While capable of winning a Vuelta or other smaller Tours, don't see him winning anything more. A Giro, perhaps, through a fluke.

I'm guessing Froome or van Garderen. Pinot, Quintana and others might be able to nick a GT win here or there but Tejay and Froome are far too good at TTing to be seriously challenged by anybody except each other.

English journalists are every bit as prone to making mistakes than any other kind. ;)

He's only 26 years old by the way.

He recently turned 26. He's not too old. That said, he will of course not beat Contador any time soon if Contador can remain as good as he is right now. No one will. Someone with good time trial- and climbing abilities will be the next to dominate GTs. Pinot seems to be a good all-rounder.

so is geraint thomas, but for him it's impossible to improve much as he's already too old for that (your words). lol man you are hilarious
