This will hurt Dekker_Tifosi and most Dutch people in general, but you're right. Blanco can't handle the big races. Romandie, Turkey, TDU, ENECO, San Sebastian and other smaller races suit them much more.

You could say everyone who performs better than normal in TDU has a chance of being over-hyped.(Kelderman, Slagter, Moreno, Thomas, Hermans)

Well, if you consider the monuments/classics so far as big races you're right. But Blanco doesn't really have contenders for those racers. Boom and Vanmarcke were not ready for today and are focussing for Roubaix.

Mollema dit pretty good so far. In Tirreno he had a bad day but finished 2nd in the 5th stage and wasn't far in the 6th one. In Criterium International it wasn't that bad, too.

Gesink was bad in P-N, but he had his reasons. In Catalunya he showed what he could do in a pretty good field. So I wouldn't rule him out for the big races. Although I don't expect him to win Il Giro ;)

So I understand the criticism, but for now it's a little premature to make a conclusion like this.

I voted Other because we keep hearing at every pre-race review that some other rider can win it but where is this Other rider? He doesn't even podium!

Other blows!

Difficult to look beyond Thomas for this one, although you could insert the name of two or three Aussie sprinters who've had plenty of coverage in the cycling press for winning practically (or absolutely) nothing, especially compared to the young French guys, for example, who are getting wins.

How about Jonathan Tiernan-Locke.

Pretty much this (still think it's too early for this thread and Highcadence had a deeper purpose in creating it) but if their is one rider that is way over hyped, it's Tiernan-Locke.

Stannard was quite hyped on this forum after his M-SR performance, but by now it has become clear that he only becomes a beast when the weather is horrible. He was ultimately very unimpressive in E3, G-W and RVV.

P-R is obviously the classic that suits him the most though, so he still has the chance to prove me wrong.

As a Stannard fanboy. I'd say he was on Thomas duties at E3, G-W was training and he caught behind the crash at RVV. agreed about Roubaix, though now Cancellara will win it, the fight for placings has almost become a seperate race. Not sure that will suit Stannard or Sky's overall campaign.

Has he really been hyped as anything other than an engine in the sky train.
Plus I would consider winning the GC, points and KOM at paris-nice fairly successful for the amount of racing we have had this year

I would be saying
Fillipo Pozzato
Sep VanMarcke
Bling Mathews
Rohan Dennis

and probably Marcel Kittel as well
