This year's Giro makes me put Farrar ahead of Greipel. Last year I would have put Greipel ahead, but not any more.

What? No Kenny van Hummel love...just kidding. I go between Greipel and Farrar...next year will be great!

In an indoor circuit, 1v1, 500m sprint, Farrar would beat Greipel 9 times out of 10. But in a real bunch sprint, I think Greipel comes pretty close.

Would like to see head on head Greipel vs Farrar if both are in shape.
Last year Greipel kicked Farrars *** in the vuelta, but Farrar wasn't in shape and in the Giro Farrar kicked Greipels ***, but Greipel was sick.

We'll see next year, hopefully both start the Tour in shape.
Cav is the fastest sprinter without doubt, but in this year he showed some weakness sometimes.

It's funny to think that this has been an 'off year' for Cav, but he still has 7 GT stage wins (and will probably get an eighth on Sunday).

Where do I think that it was an "off year" for Cav? Just noticed that he showed some weakness in some sprints. He didn't do that last year, were he was totally unbeatable.

I'd like to see how Greipel does against the big guns before commenting on him. Farrar looks best for second but he's not far ahead of the rest.

Yes! I am looking forward to the battle between Greipel and Cavendish next year, when Greipel is at OLO. Let's see who has the biggest mouth and the biggest actions (probably Mark ;))
But I voted Farrar, I think he's better than Greipel, who comes in 3rd.

I'm not accusing you of anything, just making a general comment related to what you were saying.

I voted Geipel, but I may have made a mistake.

Over the past two seasons:

Greipel has 42 wins, 5 are GT stage wins, 10 are PT wins and he won the points classification at the Vuelta.

In comparison Farrar has 17 wins, 4 are GT stage wins, 5 are PT wins.

So on the surface Greipel looks better. However, head to head over the past 2 years it looks like they've raced together 28 times or so. If you look at those races, and the times the two came to the finish for the win, Farrar has beat Greipel 10 times. Greipel has beat Farrar only 6 times.

And when Farrar beats Greipel he brings it home for the win more often, 6 of the 10 times Farrar has beaten Greipel he's won the race outright. Of the 6 times Greipel has beat Farrar he's only won the race outright 2 times.

Petacchi is pretty impressive too. His best years were 2002-2007. But in the past two years he has 20 wins, 6 GT stage wins, 1 PT win and the points classification at the Tour de France.

I'm kinda stumped

The great CQ Ranking head-to-head feature, reckons that Farrar has raced Grepiel 10 times in sprint stages in the last two years (7-3 to Farrar. 4-0 for 2010).

The problem with comparing their wins is that Farrar tends to do the races Cavendish does, while Greipel, of course, never does.

don't know if anybody else said this?

Obviously, the guy who just dragged The Manx Menace to the finish line. In fact he may be the BEST sprinter, just does not win / is not paid to win.

Ok, lets look at this in another way. Second (2nd) best may be defined in who wins in races other than the UCI 2.1 races. Or who wins in the UCI 1.1 races e.g. Continental/ Pro Tour Teams in UCI 1.1 races.
Then the answer is Jimmy Casper, who has wins for every Seven(7) days of racing. He is fearless and a very quick finisher and puts it all on the line. BTW cycling news reports most races but we need more pictures.

Hm, I don't think Renshaw's that quick himself. But Goss is.

Farrar IMO.

More talented and well-rounded rider. He has an excellent skill set and great instincts.

Greipel is part of a win making machine. That's not to say Greipel has no skillz whatsoever. But next season HTC will promote Goss into #2 role Greipel had this year, and while they might suffer a slight drop-off, Goss will still bring home a lot of races for them next year. Greipel will struggle with a lesser sprinting team next year, and should be happy if he takes home 10 wins or more next season with Lotto.
