Vandenbergh is an a good run. He could be sent down the road to cover early moves. I doubt, that Terpstras is in better shape, pretty much the opposite of what you wrote.

Surely he could be on the list, as could Paolini, Thomas, Hushovd and others.

Difference is that Vandenbergh's sprint is worse than Nibali's. Which mean he has to finish solo to win.

Terpstra's sprint on the other hand is a lot better than Vandenbergh's, and he actually have what it takes to finish a race solo.
