there was something in german media last week, a medal would be "little short of a miracle" and so on. But on his website he sounds very optimistic and says in regards of the timetrial it would have been an advantage to quit the tour early as it gives you the opportunity to work more specifically. I think he still is a challenger for gold.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Hard to see how Wiggo can lose this, form of his life, confidence level at 200%, in his home town...

Glad to see Froome got the nod instead of Millar as it was once expected, silver or bronze, but he'll have to pace himself and not lose a lot of time in the second part like at the last TDF ITT.

Fab (or Froome)/Martin/Chavanel : Bronze

BTW here is the start list : http://www.cyclingfever.com/editie.html?detp=view&_ap=startlijst&editie_idd=MjM0Nzg=

Is Andrew Talansky doing the olympic TT? I'm asking since the many geniuses of this forum tell us that Wiggo has been peaking all year, which means that Talansky in Romandie form is just as good as a Bradley Wiggins in the form of his life!

Westra is your darkhorse.

Such a shame he threw away a certain podium finish at the Tour. We know Westra can match peak form Wiggins (and thus Nibs as well) when the road goes upwards and he's a much better TT'er than Nibali.

Tony Martin:
Too many turns
Question marks about his recovery and form

Fabian Cancellara:
Not enough turns, not technically enough
Question marks about his recovery and form on longer distances
Might go already full gas at road race - regeneration?
Will give everything to defend his title
Has advantage to start as last (correct?)

Bradley Wiggins:
Clearly favourite #1
Home advantage
Course perfectly suits him

Calculation & Summary:
Most likely, the English guy with the sideburns will take the win.
Gains 0.4s/km on Cance due to spheric chainring: -17.6s
Gains 0.3s/km on better form: -13.2s
Cance gains 0.5s in every turn tighter than 90°: +5s
Net: Bradley to win by a margin of 26-30s

1. Bradley Wiggins
2. Fabian Cancellara
3. tough fight between Tony Martin, Chris Froome, Sylvain Chavanel and Richie Porte

Although, as a Swiss and in view that August 1 is our National Day, I hope Cance can still make it, but it's almost impossible, I guess... Can't wait!

Wiggins will probably have to work as hard or even harder than Cancellara cause team GB wants a bunch sprint for Cav.

No Phinney has been selected.

As for Wiggins, he has not been peaking all year. According to Sky and Wiggins he's been riding at 95/97% all year and peaked in the Tour at 100%
If he'd been peaking all year Westra should have been considered a favorite to you as well, and he came closer to beating Wiggins in a time trial than Talansky did, didn't he?

Agree. It will be a very very hard day at the office for the GB team, having to keep the break in check over 9 laps of Box Hill, then having to chase it down, then have a leadout train for Cav.

Wish TJVG was USA's selection he was quite good in both TT's in the TDF.

He has had trouble in the past with consistency in long TTs.

After the Tour TTs I am sure they regret it nearly as much as you do...

He says he made a wattage test two days ago and his results were more than pleasing. Tony wattmachine is back!
No competition here, Tony by a minute, easily.:D

Heard anything about Tony's accident?

Germany's world time trial champion Tony Martin crashed out training on the Olympic course yesterday. He lost some skin but should be ok.

Not going to help his confidence any.

Don't encourage him to get all cautious again.

It's nice for him to completely disavow excuses in advance for once.

Oh no, pour guy, what an annus horribilis he has had.

I really hope he wins this ITT and turns it to an annus mirabilis :)

Tony should really learn how to handle a bike. His power files are incredible but watching him going through turns keeps sending me shivers. Even his coach makes fun of him occasionally...
