I think it gives the rest of the race a solid narrative. Riders who are looking to win the race, gotta step up moving forward. More risk taking on the harder stages etc.

Of course if your favorite rider is already out or beaten to pulp I can understand the the depressive state.

I'm looking forward to the action, think it will be spectacular.
 
basso even if he is in 2006 form should not take the lead until zoncolan. his team is extraordinary weak. also i'm afraid he won't be at his best until the second rest day.

Pozzovivo looking good for me. If he time trials like he did in the Tour last year he will surely be up there :)
