Australia needs to become a republic.

As soon as we detach the Brits from our heritage, the better.

I'd actually prefer if Australia joined up with New Zealand and became one. With all the kiwis coming through, Australia will dominate cycling for the next 10 years.

Is cycling big in the Aboriginal communities?

How would the Aboriginals and Maories get on? Do you really think it would work if you both joined up???

The fact is that Australians excel at whatever they do, whatever sport or any other field of endeavour. For a country with a relatively small population situated so far from the rest of the world we make our presence felt. The only thing the Brits are exceptionaly good at is humour, which just makes them a bit of a joke really.

What about music? You've not really done much there. INXS, Nick Cave, Men at Work and even Pendulum are all OK. And Kylie looks good in hotpants. But that's about it. AC/DC and the Bee Gees are all British born.

You also lag a long way behind in films (although you have some good foreign born actors), TV and pretty much any arts or entertainment.

We have produced Turner, Constable, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, you have Rolf Harris.

I'm just waiting for the Worlds and for Cav to celebrate Lorenzo-style by placing a huge Manx flag in the ground. A Brit winning on Aussie turf, it doesn't get any better than that.
:p

Cav won't be anywhere near it at the worlds. The course is too hard.

That must be why Australia is such a dominant global power and Britain is completely ignored on the international stage OH WAIT that's the exact opposite of the truth.

How did Britain go during the GCC? Dominate?

Australian's got lucky, with almost everything, we do surprisingly little with it.

EDIT: except the original australians.

The original Australians.. a great example of hard workers.

Stealing bikes is pretty big.

If the Aboriginals & Maories got together, you would see laziness of epic proportions.

Massive LOL there, although i was thinking the exact same thing.

Aussies are the best at both ends of the sporting spectrum. We either dominate playing it or we dominate at sitting on the couch/lounge eating potato chips watching it.

Just thank an Australian for writing the classic "Dr Who" theme. British culture has to come from somewhere. I could go on.....

Good point. Perhaps it would be best not to give the country back to its original inhabitants.

and you still love and keep Rolf on your island. :D

at least Rolf's still going unlike the rest of your examples... Turner n Constable are long dead, half the beatles are dead and what's left of led zep is hardly setting the world alight.
but hell, the latest crop of simon cowell pop tarts are exceptionally talented musicians aren't they... talentless manufactured trash - the spice girls and girls aloud are just the tip of the iceberg of the current "stars" of english music...
you really have to answer Janet Jackson's question - "what have you done for me lately?"... the answer for britain is quite simply "nothing"...
like your empire, british music is long dead...

but back to the cycling where sky just struggle to keep their bikes upright on the flat in italy...

Well if we can't use people because they are not Aus born, you can't use cyclists which were born outside of Britain. Two way street man:p

Thought some of my might be interested in this. We do have some climbs in South Australia even if they are not monsters. Pity our race has to be run before the season starts.

Want to understand for a country with the greatest weather in the world gets rolled by a country with the worst. Maybe the Brits are tougher? Explain it to an American.

This is the Australians that are currently 3rd on UCI world rankings and the British cyclists that are holding 8th place...

Obviously we don't get the idea that being up there with Italy and Spain is a bad thing...

And if we did a Phil Liggett and classed Hausller as Australian already we'd be ranked 2nd.
Because he is an Aussie, regardless of what his licsense says. Anyone that will hand in their EU passport just to ride for one country over another, obviously feels a very strong alligiance. And McEwen asked him after the first World Cup match how his side went...his response "We f???ing lost!"... :)

Are you sure you're american?

I mean the question is dumb enough but you could also be a brit trying to get a bite.

Oh the shame of being branded a newbie....teach us wise one...

Just so I understand....you posted on a stale thread and now lament that it has kicked off again......and it's the TDF newbies fault! :D

The graph is interesting though! I would like to see a comparison with the short climbs on the Worlds course in Geelong. Like those ADL climbs they are quite tough but short. Apparently the Italians were a little surprised by how pitchy they were; because of the assumption that it was a sprinters course I guess.
