Don't know where hog's quote came from, clearly not someone who knows anything. If anyone with climbing prowess comes it will be to get someone with a good kick in position, there are many who wouldn't lower themselves. For me this is the status quo I'll have more respect if a guy like wiggins turns up to be part of a cavendish leadout etc.

still unsure where the idea that there is no climbing in the Geelong circuit came from. Yes there are no higher Cat climbs but there are a couple of strong gradients mid lap that I think will leave the pure sprinters behind. It suits a Friere type rather than a Cavendish

british are lame..
we are tiny compared to them and turn out so many more great atheletes then they ever can.

infact british have had the worst reperesentation of GC riders for years now esp when you consider they are right in the midst of the largest cycling fan base.

australia has a very small cycling following and we are ages from europe and look what weve brought in comparison.

keep whinging poms

Sprinter, but he has found it quite hard in Paris nice so far as you would being a neo pro.

Porte is NOT a sprinter, he is a strong time trialist and climber. He has only been riding a few years now, I think he has come from a tri background.

Hes a little guy had a great first euro season winning the tt at the baby giro. his Aus wins include Tour of Bright and Tassie both very hilly races.

I dont know why he doesnt get more press. I guess its bacause he hasnt been throught the AIS programme on the track.

THANK YOU! I was watching the Giro stage today, wondering how a neo-pro sprinter could finish a mountain stage 30 seonds behind Vinokourov o_O

But he indeed looks very promising, I think he's in sixth place now after one hell of a tough week, so I think it's fair to say that he is "the revelation" of this year's Giro!
He really kicked it up a notch though from Paris-Nice, where he finished way back in almost every stage.

After stage 8 of the Giro

1st Mountains

1st Azzuri d'Italia

How are the Poms doing?

OOO cutting.

I take it therefore that immigrants can never settle properly in a new country.

In which case do you want all the 20 something aussies back who are clogging up our capital?

I have no problem with the Kolpak, just find it amusing that you can't find 11 international level players out of local talent streams from a population of 60million.

Most Aussies in London got out when the Pound went pear-shaped in late 2008/early 2009 (myself included...) the ones that are still there are pretty close to qualifying for benefits now.

by the way can you take all the 30-60 something East Enders lookalikes that are ruining the view/experience at our tourist destinations back?

nothing more than glorified backyard cricket...

Who gives a toss about cricket full stop. After lawn bowls and curling it would be one of the more ridiculous sports in the world.

I met and married a brit and 25 years ago I tried to get into Cricket for commonality among family. I sat down with the father in law while visiting during world cup years ago and a camera panned in on Brit dudes drinking tea with a cup and saucer passing the milk around waiting for their bat...patting their brows dry etc. and the score was like India 756 GB 0 and I was like WTF

not a sport
