Didn't the promoter, whose brother happens to run Livestrong, babble about the "Lance effect" resulting in a 20% increase in registration?

18 more entrants then last year. Less then 10% more.

The Lance effect

Read this yesterday. Doesn't mention Livestrong but you get the idea of selling brand "awareness".

Armstrong is still exploiting his kids to enhance his brand. Disgusting.

He's probably reflecting on the price he is going to start to pay soon. Now is the only time he has with them and he knows. They are reaching the age where they will start wondering what the truth really is, and with Lance not coming out, they will only become more distant from him as time goes on.

Don't for a second think he is not affected by the lie he continues to live. He's just too far down the road on the choices he's made. And it's the kids' thing that eats him up inside the most. That's what his recent statements elude to. Only so much fame and money can buy. Once you've done that it comes down to the simple things in life, like the relationship and time with your close family, friends and most of all your kids, especially when they are the age his kids are right now...

Long time pro triathlete Chris Legh gives an opinion.

No doubt like most people you were caught up in the romance of a Lance Armstrong attempt on Kona. Where did you sit on that? Were you wanting him to be there and where do you sit now in terms of the steps that the WTC have taken, and the sanctions that have been imposed?

CL: Initially, before all the bans were sort of put in place, I think the WTC had sort of shot themselves in the foot. And I guess as an athlete and looking at my friends and competitors that had put so much effort in, I hated seeing the exposure and the emphasis that WTC was placing on Lance. I look at the likes of Chrissie, who, whether it’s basketball, baseball, soccer, I’d put her down as probably the best athlete I’ve ever seen in the world, yet there was no emphasis or effort made in building her profile. Yet the WTC straight away wanted to build Lance’s profile. For example, you had the Lance tab on their website. Why didn’t Crowie have on? Why don’t Peter Reid and Tim DeBoom and these guys get invited back and have a role in our sport? Look at the Tour de France. The past champions are always invited back. They’ve got this huge involvement in the sport and for some reason we just skip over that and we jump straight onto the Lance bandwagon. And obviously things have changed since the ban’s in place and I’m pretty content with it.

Washington Post fluff piece. I thought they were a little more serious than this.

While this is one of the most expoitively disturbing things I've seen a parent do whether innocent or guilty in the court of public opinion (this is really f*cking bad); it is smarter than the usual LA gambit. His kids might be a better PR draw than he will be. I can see Kristin in the background as Oprah comes out of retirement for her segment: Exploited Children of Fraud-how do they survive?
