We are unlikely to see an "attack" in the sense of a significant acceleration. He's not that kind of rider. He's not great on short, sharp, climbs for the same reason. He's a poor sprinter for the same reason. He's just not explosive. The other type of attack a grinding rider with no explosive change of pace can do is on the downhill, but those aren't his forte either.

He could take a flyer off the front on the flat and try to time trial his way to victory (in the way David Millar sometimes does) but a GC man can't really hope to get away with that.

The best we can hope for in terms of excitement for him is that he hits the front and grinds people off his wheel, Basso style. More likely, he follows wheels all Tour and relies on his TT to make time.

Agree with your overall assessment - attacking is not really his forte but it looks as though his biggest rival will be Evans who is a similar type rider.
So it would not surprise me to see an attack somewhere in the mountains to try and shake him off.

Indeed but in nearly 95 % of the scenarios I envisage that Wiggins will not be worrying about attacking Evans and bearing the possible risks as he will have the time from the TT. If he has already lost time in the mountains which he needs to gain back then I find it hard to believe he will have the form to risk and attack even if it is imperative. The only scenario I see is if he loses time on the descents and even so I would believe he would still go to the front and attempt to break his competitors rather than attack.

My thoughts are that they will mark each other on the mountains before the first TT and that after the TT it is going to be quite close, maybe 30s difference on GC.
If that happens then it would be worth a dig in the later mountains, although Evans is very consistent and he would be hard to shake.

The only mountain of proper note before the first TT is PDF and it will be raced at a very fast pace as it is short and very steep, Evans imo would be better off attacking Wiggins on that climb as it is a type of climb which Wiggins doesnt particularly like or is suited to.

It may be 30s after the first TT but my bet is it being more like 1m or 1:30 and if that happens then Wiggins who is so reticent to attack would certainly not go for it in this cicrumstance.

I remember that iZnoGouD. I was screaming at the telly!

Interestingly, in an interview a month ago, Brad said that they'd specifically been working on his burst speed to help with attacking and responding to attacks in the mountains.
I agree that I don't think he'll do it unless it's absolutely imperative, but hopefully, we'll see less of the diesel.

I remember him attacking up a short sharp climb in one of the early season races too. He ended up conceding a few seconds, but it was interesting to see! Really struggling to remember which stage in which race it was though - anyone?

probably mende in paris-nice

but he improved his acceleration a lot this year.my biggest concern is that he won't even need to attack on the mountains which will be rather sad.i would like to see wiggo chasing rolland big time

The rule of course being that you've got to take time when you can, you never know what can happen next, that served Hinault well in 1985 when he crashed in St Etienne and then struggled...not so much in 1986 when he kept attacking with a 5+ minute lead. I don't see Wiggins attacking further than the last climb though, anyway, who does these days, unless it's a desperate move.

So let me get this straight ... Wigans calls half the forum w*nkers, c*cks, etc ... and no one cares?!

Granted this is not news in the sense that he has flattered us with such imaginative language at least once before but still ...

Or is this already discussed elsewhere??

Oh Englishmen and their proper manners.

I'm sure if he has the legs to take time he will push to the front and see what happens, ala Vuelta.

But that is of course quite an if.

That would be the question. Wiggins' has said himself that Cadel "goes for everything." It all comes down to how much time he might take tomorrow. Is there a time-gain point where you just follow with a better climbing team or attack and risk isolated yourself and losing time? Cadel looks to be riding alone in the mountains again. I would say you want to keep him that way while not isolating yourself on a attack. Although Froome looks to be able to go with Wiggins everywhere.

If there is someone please post it here. Haven't managed to find the exerts yet.

Whatever he said it's had an affect on the jounalists and riders. Journo's applauded him apparantly and many riders tweeting his praise this eve
