Hard for Brailsford to spin this in his and Froome's favour. He's opted for a team bus that is tranquilo over one that contains the 9 best riders but explaining that without slagging off Wiggins wont be easy, especially to the many additional non-cycling journalists that will be at all the press conferences in Yorkshire and will set the agenda in the mainstream media. Its a PR own goal for the domestic market at least.

Oh, it will be easy. I can imagine it already:

Brailsford: 'We had to do what was best for the team and Chris....'

Is it not possible that Wiggins breaks his contract with Sky and switches team before the tour? I recall Petacchi doing something similar once

Haha I suppose, but that was at the end of the season wasn't it? Would love to see Wiggo make a shock switch just before the tour :p

Never going to happen, its still possible he will make the Tour team. Another good performance at Suisse, preferably a win and he will make the team especially if Froome gets beaten by Contador next week.

Does it make a difference if Froome gets beaten? Porte is still sky's second ahead of wiggo.

It will be interesting because the Uk mainstream media have never really had a go at Brailsford, they've always laughed along at his jokes about making wheels rounder. Even the hypocrisy over Lienders/Yates/Julich et al was brushed away very easily with barely a whimper, but snubbing Wiggins will be a much bigger deal, he won't get an easy ride if he tries to dismiss it lightly.

best case scenario:wiggo wins suisse, froome gets beaten by contador in dauphine. braislford has to put wiggo on the line-up for tour

Wiggo will certainly have massive motivation to win the TDS now and we know that when he puts his mind to something...and if Bertie beats Froome at the Dauphine it's going to become even worse for DB than it already is. Apparently ("will be on the team only if Froome is injured) Froome has vetoed Wiggo on the team (certainly a right to veto in his contract) so that shouldn't give him a spot.

So because Froome is a little whiny ***** a in-form Wiggo can't ride the tdf. WTH

Wiggo is clearly on form and could have been a great asset in there tdf squad. Sky are letting personal issue's affect there judgment. For a team claiming they are all about being professionals and scientific and blabla this is pretty embarrassing haha

Chris Froome has dropped in my reckoning after this, and Brailsford for giving way.
Even if BW had gone rogue The Dawg could have seen him off in the mountains and proven himself a worthy champion by not losing too much in the ITT. But making sure he was DNS was sneaky and cowardly. Hope Alberto is in blistering form next month.

I thought even with what Froome said recently about Wiggo he would still get a spot ... apparently not. Not cool

Apparently Wiggins (knowing he wouldn't be at the Tour) has been focussing on the track since California. He's put on 2kg as well so he definitely won't be in contention for the GC at Suisse.
