Making a call like you did in 2010? I can see a repeat of that year on the cards. Would make watching the Tour funny.

Nope. This upcoming Tour is as lame of a route as we have ever seen. Wigans can handle a lame route. A proper GT route, not so much.

Even with this route I doubt he would podium. If I was the DS at Sky I would put all my guys supporting Cav not Wiggo at the Tour.

Cav winning a couple of stages is business as usual. A couple of more stages will not bring more fans to the table. Wiggins on the podium will get a lot of people excited.

Thats the point. I have no faith at all in Wiggins to podium the Tour ever unless his only rivials are the Schlecks with this kind of course. It would be nice if he podiumed but honestlty I don't think he could ever do it. Maybe win the Vuelta if the course suits him.

Why does he feel the need too be that light in spring? That's crazy. There's no reason to be that light so early. I mean being this light is laways crazy, but being at this wieght all season long is just flat out scary. And doesn't make any sense. especially when you compete in a race like Roubaix

He did Roubaix in '09 and felt that it was a race that helped him with his condition for the Tour. So he keeps doing it.

Wiggins before the Schlecks brothers?

I have very little doubt that Wiggins will be better placed than Andy and his brother in this year TdF. Infact,I don'y think the brothers are on Wiggins radar this year. Rather I think team Sky will to look out for other types of top riders.

In my opinion his weight isnt to much of a factor until it starts to interfear with his power output"...as others have stated Mr Wiggins know's what he is doing.(having been in the game long enough)but will probably miss this years TDF podium,just...

well-I have noticed lately that most riders are currently maintaining good shape since the beginning of the season, in order to avoid unforeseen set backs in weight, as the calender goes on-Samu is a good example of it & he's been called out twice by Perico for being "too skinny" during the Vuelta's presentation...

I've read also that Wiggo has issues keeping the kilos off his body, so I think he's just making sure he's in good shape earlier so the balance between the training & the weight battle don't take it's toll from the start....

Maintaining a low weight makes one more susceptible to getting sick, which will interfere with training. Being a winter champion may not carry over to July.

I'm not sure if he still does this, but he tends to drink beer and watch rock shows at clubs during the off-season. I read him tweeting that after the '09 season.

When I said the Schlecks I did not mean for this Tour but in others down the round but that is my fault for not being clearer. If anything he needs to worry about Contador, Evans, Menchov, and maybe Froome in this Tour.

I am going to out on a limb and say he's going to win his 1st tour.

I think he's super motivated to make up from last year's fiasco due to crashing out.

I think his time trialing abilities will allow him to stay ahead. Froome will be his aid and I think he may pull it off.

I'll put down the pipe now. :D

That's probably the only thing I like about Wiggins: he likes Roubaix, he rides Roubaix. To me he gets a lot of respect for that, specially since none of the others GT riders does that.

I think had his career gone slightly differently he would have made a pretty decent rider over the cobbles.

He has the taste for it which is one of the biggest requirements according to some winners like Musew (I think).

And his Olympic 80kg version certainly would have the power for it.

Agreed. Wiggins in 08 olympics form would have been a force to be reckoned with at Roubaix and Flanders.

David Duffield used to regularly repeat the story of how a young Bradley Wiggins signed something for him (in maybe 2002 or so) "Bradley Wiggins, winner of Paris-Roubaix 2008" (or thereabouts). So at some point that was his main road aspiration. I think things changed once he'd actually ridden it.

By the way.
Norway has implemented a body mass index limit for all athletes in the country.
Pretty good thing in my opinion. You have to do something about this crazy weight draining.

How very arbitrary... there isn't a standard healthy BMI for everyone.

Bradley Wiggins is leaner than ever for this time of the year [see recent pics below]. He is listed as 69kg on the Sky web-site, the same weight as Cavendish. I'm sure he'll do well in his first few races but I'm not sure if he can sustain it to Le Tour. What do you think?

Really stupid. BMI was designed for statistical analysis of large groups of people. It was not designed for and should not be used for individuals.

BMI is utterly pointless for athletes. Backstedt rode the Tour "obese" several times - completely ludicrous.

Weight limit makes sense, indeed it's a must to keep the sport at least a bith "healthy" and not turn it into a total freak show.
Just like blood limits are needed

Wiggo is probably trying to challenge The Chicken in body physique. Even though they don't race against each other.
