WTF does a contract mean anymore?

Hope Sky paid big and they don't get into the TdF next year. I'm remembering a quote from Jean-Marie Leblanc...something about not inviting teams created by a checkbook (either Team Mercury or Coast). I hope that Christian Prudhomme does the same thing.

to be honest i think sporting contracts are lunacy anyway...

if i, or you have a job, and we see another job advertised that we fancy, why the hell shouldnt we go to the other job, i should have the freedom to work for who i like..

as far as garmin goes, brad has been through so many teams, they picked him up for nowt to get a couple of time trial wins, now they are going to make a handsome profit on one years work.. if they have received as reported £2m.. would brad have made them £2m this year..???? maybe.. doubt it...

i think sky is better for brad.. im not sure brad is better for sky..

Same thing it always has. The opportunity to obtain a large amount of 'A' in return for relinquishing your legal right to 'B'.

Swap out the values accordingly for any given situation.

Cheers (just for you Dimspace)

JV - if you are still with us - let him go..............please!

This Sky/Wiggo scene is starting to make the UCI/Astana/Contador situation look like an efficient and timely transaction.

And this is all Wiggos fault - even if I kindof like the guy. The Sky team was announced last year and he still went ahead and signed a 2 year deal with Garmin in September 2008.

Compare that to Cav who was courted by Sky as his contract was to end this year with Columbia - but he made it clear in March that he was staying with Columbia and there has been little mention of him since.

Although I'm surprised at this news, it could make for an even more interesting Tour next year IF CVV gets his '08 form back. We'll have Wiggo, CVV, Contador, Armstrong and Schleck on different teams. Oh yeah, and Evans.

I've gotta admit, it's pretty obvious that Wiggo will be very happy on a team that represents his country. But the whole thing really stinks for the sport.
This sport has no REAL deadlines. You can put things off, and off and off. I'm sure that, that sometimes even becomes a strategy, looking ahead into the coming year. Make sure certain opponents are locked in place with certain teams, then make your move. It sux. There should be stringent windows for all of this movement between teams.
In Baseball you have trading deadlines and roster freezes, as you approach the Play-off, and World Series stages of each season. Why can't cycling do something like that? As far as I'm concerned mid way through the TdF the "silly season" begins, and doesn't end until about January of the next year.
And to address the question of Vandevelde or Farrar as team leader next season for Garmin, at the TdF. Are you guys stoned? Don't get me wrong, I like Tyler alot, and I was really glad to see him finish out the year nicely. But as long as there is this guy named Cavendish out there, I wouldn't be putting all of my eggs in the Farrar basket, at the years premier race. VandeVelde is the way to go, no question in my mind, especially since AC is nicely tucked in at Astana now, and can't go to Garmin, as was previously speculated.

Garmin should hire FLandis. They can get top dollar for selling Wiggins and bottom dollar for buying FLandis.

This thing is so anticlimactic. If it had happened a few months ago there might have been some excitement.

yeah, what is on Flandis' rider lol. A bottle a jack, and a two four of Miller. He comes cheap.

New bidons at Garmin. Brown paper bagz

I can't figure out why it's so cold outside when it's only the 5th of September. And the leaves came off the trees way early this fall. Strange weather this year.

+1. Hope CVV has a good TdF next year. I suppose Garmin is where AC will go if somebody on Astana tests poz and he gets to exercise any of those "outs" in his contract?

Now where's The Hog to come and say "told you so"?

We shouldn't blame sky but blame wiggo, really he has just talked riddles about this the whole time. Other than wiggo, really who would be the british rider from Sky which would win the tour within 5 years.

At least the cycling world has something to talk about at this time, even though it may sound 'sneaky' to announce it at this time due to teams having all places locked in, it could be a risk that a team(s) that you wanted to go to already has all their riders spots locked up.

no, he basically says garmin are no good, then vaughters and white say that he's staying, then you here that vaughters has said that wiggo wants to go to sky and then in a interview by anthony tan to wiggo he said he's staying at sky. Better to say nothing and just announce it.

Totally agree with your last statement, can't wait or this season to start.

I think Wiggins may just be Contador's biggest threat next year. I know he has alot left in him when he neutralises the other riders "advantages" with the help Brailsford will provide him with. Would be good to see him win the Tour.

Most think this was as good as he will do. But I reckon he can climb a few steps, because Garmin were not gonna support him doing it like the GC riders do to win.

You reckon the only guys i can see Sky supporting him in the mountains, are pauwels, augustyn and lovkist.

At garmin however they have hesjedal, vandevelde, martin and danielson.

i would probably go for garmin over sky just

I agree, he just wanted to be part of Team Sky IMHO, not that there is anything wrong with that.
