This seems like the next logical step against doping. Now people within the UCI, teams etc have a distribution channel to leak without getting caught and being believed.

There's nothing special about Wikileaks. The same thing could have been done already. It just requires handing stuff to a journalist and letting them run with it. Simple.

Not really. Wikileaks is a brand name that guarantees more exposure plus they have a history of preotecting their sources. A single journalist who may not be able to publish a leak due to editorial pressure.

If the Americans don't take the guy out first, choose from a list including Mossad, the Saudis, the UAE, the Chinese, etc, to do it.

If this were 1975 and wikileaks came into being, the guy would have been dirt-napping already. That guy's lucky to be alive today.

Julian Assange is on the CIA hit list there is a contract out for him so dont think that method will last long.

Still sounds good in theory.

Also, according to an article on Wikileaks in the New Yorker they now receive hundreds of documents of all kinds there every day and only a fraction of them make it into one of their press releases.

Although, as others have suggested, if you had the time and the motivation you could scan docs yourself and upload them via PDF to an overseas file sharing site based in a country that values privacy and then link to it here or tweet to NYvelocity or any number of places that where others could see it and it would be very hard to trace it back to you (are you reading this FLoyd w/ your blood bag carrying Motorcycle panniers? :)

Before everyone goes crazy about how awesome Wikileaks is, here are two things to bear in mind.

1. Not covert cables. Conservative estimates say that around 3 MILLION people have already seen the cables (or the pertinent contents), so none of the new releases are really world rocking.

2. What is the one country that comes out of this disclosure not only unscathed, but with 'intel' that bolsters its socio-political stance in the hot-beds of the world?

Actually, retract my previous comments.

This COULD be a great avenue for the UCI to take advantage of. They're pretty good at buying and selling results, not averse to bribes, and seem to love monolithic press releases. Hmmm...

That probably needs to be discussed in another thread but in short:
1) It's confirmation of a lot of hear say for the general public.
2) Obviously since they are leaks from the US embassies they are going to be from the view of the US hence positive to the US and it's interests.
